BATF Head Melson Implicates DOJ In Surprise July 4th Testimony
The American Thinker ^ | 7/7/2011 | Rob Miller

Posted on 07/07/2011 5:47:26 AM PDT by Lakeshark

Over the July Fourth weekend, there was a major development in the Fast and Furious investigation when BATF head Ken Melman made a surprise July 4th appearance before Darrel Issa and Chuck Grassley's congressional committee put together to investigate Fast and Furious.

That operation involved BATF(Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) agents allowing straw purchasers to buy over two thousand automatic weapons and then smuggle them illegally across the border to Mexican Drug cartels. The operation led to a spike in violence in Mexico, the killing in Arizona of a U.S. Border Patrol agent last December and a possible attempted cover up by the BATF and the US Department of Justice.

A huge development in the burgeoning scandal that the MSM hasn't said much about.

Yet.

"Issa has already stated that he has proof Eric Holder was out and out lying about what he knew about Fast and Furious and when he knew it. Now it's just a matter of moving up the ladder and getting these people to rat out one another until they get to Holder."

Hmmm...

Author is a TOTAL IDIOT!!! The name is Melson, not Melman. I stoped reading when I got to the part about "...agents allowing straw purchasers to buy over two thousand automatic weapons..."

We will get nowhere in this fight so long as we have idiots like this spreading mis-information.

What Issa and Grassley are talking about is Obstruction of Justice. And the fact that some of the 'gun traffickers' were paid informants on the FBI and DEA payroll

I think they know the fish rots from the head down, but in order to get to the head, they first have to nail Holder. Can you imagine what would happen if Holder turns in order to save his hide?

Not only Holder, but Clinton and Napolitano.

This did not happen in a vacuum.

I certainly want to see that racist ratbastard Holder receive some justice,
but everyone is right, this kind of thing wouldn’t be authorized by someone like Holder without permission from higher up.

Fast and Furious is a gift from Obama we should not squander. I hope Issa slow walks his inquiry. Plan the hearings and revelations such that a Contempt of Congress citation is issued against Holder next August. Follow that with his prosecution and careful leaks that implicate Obama all the way up to the election.

Two can play the October surprise game. Let's do it.

Dems Call for More Gun Control in Light of Operation Fast and Furious

By Katie Pavlich
6/30/2011

What’s the answer to failed government? More government!

In the June Issue of Townhall Magazine, I wrote Misfire: Obama’s Scandalous Secret Gun Control Agenda, about how Operation Fast and Furious would result in calls for more gun control and I questioned whether officials in the Obama Justice Department purposely allowed thousands of semi-automatic weapons to flow into the hands of dangerous drug cartels in order to meet President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder’s goal of re-instating the ban on assault rifles and other forms of harsh gun control.

During an Oversight Committee hearing on June 15, Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings stated the following: “No legitimate examination of this issue will be complete without analyzing our nation’s gun laws, which allow tens of thousands of assault weapons to flood into Mexico from the United States every year, including fifty caliber sniper rifles, multiple AK variants and scores of others. When Mexican President Calderon addressed Congress in May, he pleaded for us to stop fueling a full-scale drug war with military-grade assault rifles.”

The problem is, as Mr. Cummings failed to point out, many of these weapons were been provided directly to violent cartel members courtesy of the U.S. government, not because of “lax” gun control laws.

Today, democrats on the House Oversight Committee, led by Rep. Cummings, issued a report calling for more gun control in light of Operation Fast and Furious. Their solution to the Obama Justice Department’s Operation Fast and Furious scandal is to give the same officials who purposely broke U.S. federal law within the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) overseen by the Justice Department, even more power and control over American gun rights, stomping on the Second Amendment to defend government incompetency rather than placing responsibility on Washington bureaucrats.

During the same hearing on June 15 we found out ATF Director Kenneth Melson watched a live video feed from his cushy Washington D.C. office of straw purchasers in Arizona, who he knew were working for Mexican drug cartels, buying mass amounts of weapons, but democrats like Cummings are blaming the Second Amendment for the lethal consequences of the operation....

Palin, Romney, or Bachmann could ride this to the Presidency. Whomever starts beating this drum on the absolute correct, righteous, firm, and incontrovertible platform of government corruption will win over a large section of not only conservative Republicans but independents as well. PA, OH, WV, AZ, WI, NM, and CO GOP and independents will be energized in a big way. The O cannot afford to lose any of them, is weak in all of them in a big way, and will be desperate if this gets legs. Romney stands the most to gain (by having a message resonating with the conservative GOP base), but both Palin and Bachmann need to appeal to moderate independents more than they have to date. Hopefully, this really does escalate up to the O. It seems certain that it escalates up to Holder, and the O is rightfully implicated by appointing the guy who has many careers ago become a living example of the “Peter principle.”

Issa, Grassley blast Holder in letter after secret meeting with ATF’s Ken Melson

Published: 10:20 AM 07/06/2011 | Updated: 6:01 PM 07/06/2011

Melson appeared with only his personal attorney at the secret meeting with Congressional investigators. Melson was originally scheduled to conduct the interview on July 13 with Justice Department attorneys and his personal attorney present, but Melson abandoned DOJ representation after learning of a provision in his agreement to testify that allowed him to do so. (Issa staffer: Gunrunner investigation points much higher than ATF director)

The blanket coverage of a crime trial seems almost like an intentional media blackout of the corruption and economy issues of this administration,
with an additional agenda of deliberate dumbing down our culture. Disappointed in FOX.

Kinda creepy.

And the fact that some of the 'gun traffickers' were paid informants on the FBI and DEA payroll

What is the significance of this? Is Melson trying to pin the blame on the FBI? If the ATF was (allegedly) in the dark about what was going on, what about the FBI?
