Even in places like Illinois, paparazzi with cameras can harass trial participants on the courthouse steps and sidewalk. News stories breathlessly report that Joe Blow answered “No comment!” as reporters “shouted questions at him.” It isn’t edifying most of the time. Maybe it should be left up to the trial participants to go to the media outside the courthouse if they want, otherwise the media can record all it wants but has to leave the participants alone.
Angry, emoting, amoral mobs following self serving media ring leaders are in. The thoughtful, informed, self governing and honorable individual, is as out as is the US constitution that once shaped his ideals and character.
