Four states are drafting legislation in the wake of the Casey Anthony trial which will force parents to report missing children in the first 24 hours.

Lawmakers in Florida, New York, Oklahoma and West Virginia have announced they will propose versions of the legislation, which comes in the wake of nationwide fury following the acquittal of young mother Anthony on charges that she murdered her two-year-old daughter Caylee.

The prosecution case in the Anthony trial was largely hampered by the fact that Caylee's body was found so late. The child was reported missing a full month after her family last saw her.

It's amazing that such a law even needs to be passed, but the sicko Casey Anthony proved the need.

More from the article:

"Michelle Crowder, from Durant, Oklahoma. launched the petition calling for a federal law which would make it a felony for parents to fail to inform police of a missing child within 24 hours of disappearance or within an hour of a child's death."

Sorry, but I think this is just knee-jerk lawmaking as per usual.

I know. It’s amazing that this HASN’T been criminalized yet, but who saw Casey Anthony coming?

We have become a nation of idiots, this should be common sense, but alas, the Dems have made everyone a warden of the government.
Today I heard the murderess is being offered a million dollars for her story. How sick is that?

Ain’t it the truth! If they’re going to pass a law for this they should pass a law making it illegal for idiots to have children. Say goodbye to America.

... but the sicko Casey Anthony proved the need.

Nonsense. There is no need for a stupid law like this. Something happens ~once~ and suddenly it requires wide legislation? Ridiculous.

Bravo. What is wrong with conservatives that want to legislate as bad as the dumbocrats? You have to use commons sense.

Might as well include a requirement for a mother to disclose who the father is on the birth certificate as well. I don’t think Casey did that either.

We need a law that all “cause” inspired laws must wait a cooling period at least 30 days for enactment to permit time for consideration of how they could backfire upon those who they were intended to help.

We need a second law that all prosecutors or candidates for prosecutorial office must take an IQ test and score at least 100 in the logic category and 100 average.

For sure we need this law there is absolutely positivity no way that this could be consider child neglect. A given the large number of unreported missing children .

Then on the other hand how long will the police require to to wait before they will accept a report for a 17 yr old.

What a load of codswallop.

These parasite legislators will do anything to be seen as responding to the media bum-rush to “Do something!”

I have a better idea. Any time a legislator proposes a bill that responds to a sensational event within six months, that legislator can be lynched by a mob and everyone gets full immunity from criminal prosecution and civil damages.

I don’t have a problem with this law but I must ask: is it possible that it would be ruled unconstitutional because if the parent is involved in the disappearance then they are being forced to incriminate themselves?

They are trying to pass a law to make it illegal to NOT report a missing child WITHIN 24 hours it the child’s disappearance.

If you go to the police, or call them to file a missing person’s report, they tell you YOU MUST WAIT 24 HOURS first.

Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t.

If the law was in place now, the murderous Casey Anthony would not be walking free next Wednesday.
