Texas governor defends Mexican's execution

By MICHAEL GRACZYK , 07.08.11, 05:50 PM EDT

"After reviewing the totality of the issues that led to Leal's conviction, as well as the numerous court rulings surrounding the case, including the most recent Supreme Court ruling on Thursday, Gov. Perry agreed that Leal was guilty of raping and bludgeoning a 16-year-old girl to death," (Perry's spokeswoman Katherine) Cesinger said.

From the Texas death chamber Thursday evening, Leal, 38....wrapped up his comments by twice shouting: "Viva Mexico!"

This piece of garbage should've been hanged back in '94.

He owes no explanation. Not to the Mexicans, nor to the supposed President. Texas’ laws were followed and sentencing duly imposed.

HEAR HEAR!!!

Something that I haven’t understood, this guy came over here thirty some odd years ago, he didn’t put in for amnesty? Or was he just a dirty illegal his entire life?

The fact that he cried “Viva Mexico” before he was snuffed just compounds my disgust with him.

Rot in Hell you dirty animal.

If you commit the most heinous of crimes in Texas, you can expect to face the ultimate penalty under our laws," Perry's spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger said a day after convicted killer Humberto Leal was put to death in Huntsville.

Hypothetical : If I was considering raping and killing a 16 year old girl I would think about doing it in New York, California or especially Illinois or Ohio. But I would stay away from Florida and fur sure Texas. The say Bundy came to Florida because he wanted to end his killing spree.

That's exactly right. Leave it to the dumbass AP to run a phony headline.

“Texas is not bound by a foreign court’s ruling,” Cesinger said. “The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that the treaty was not binding on the states and that the president does not have the authority to order states to review cases of the then 51 foreign nationals on death row in the U.S.”

AMEN!
DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS!!

From article:

"The secretary herself is quite disappointed in the outcome in this case," Clinton's spokeswoman, Victoria Nuland, said Friday. "You know that the U.S. government sought a stay of Leal's execution in order to give the Congress time to act on the Consular Notification Compliance Act, which would have provided Leal the judicial review required by international law.

I believe that all men and women in the United States, legal or illegal, deserve a fair trial. That's a God-given right, as recognized by the U.S. Constitution.

Leal had his day in court. He had his fair trial. He was found guilty of a heinous crime and given the maximum penalty allowable by law.

But let's make one thing clear. People who enter this country illegally DO NOT get special rights. They DO NOT get special privileges or consular protections. You waive those rights when you choose to enter/remain in this country illegally. If I were to illegally enter Mexico, commit as vile a crime as this man did, and then start laying claims to diplomatic protections I would be laughed at straight to the gallows.

That this farce of an administration wants to retroactively enforce an unimplemented treaty this many years after sentence has been passed goes to show the true disdain they hold for both this country and for justice itself. This story truly makes me sick.

I agree with your first point, but Bundy went to Florida because it was warm (it was winter when he escaped) and because he had been there before on a campaign trail. He chose a campus becuse that’s where all the young women were. I’m glad they fried that bas****.

I frankly hope that b**** is livid. Few things make me happier than the thought that something has ruined her day.

They’re sent by Rove, or they learned the Rove tricks. Putting Palin after Perry is such an insult.

Why do Perry’s supporters continue to insult Palin like that?
