If it’s being reported by the BBC take the “results” with a grain of salt and assume that the survey is skewed. Absent the details to insure an apples to apples comparison one should assume that it’s biased.

If the BBC was interested in the validity of the “study” they would have done their homework. More likely, they are aware of the inconsistencies and failed to report on them.

Next thing you know O’zero will soon be touting this report as yet another reason to support Obamacare.

Keith Richards and Fidel Castro will be the last men standing, ehehehehe! Throw in Sean Penn for good measure. Eternity is tough when both heaven and hell reject you!

While most of the article is the typical BBC claptrap about income inequality, socialized medicine, smoking and salt, here's the money line they DON'T really talk about.

"Where the US lags behind is what happens at a much younger age."

I'm sure contained in there is murder, drug abuse, AIDS, and auto accidents.

They did also mention that if an American does reach 65, he will live longer than his UK cousin, so it seems the problem is with younger people.

I imagine part of the reason is that "Americans" covers far more ethnic backgrounds and subcultures than "Australians" or "Britons."

Why do women live longer than men? Because the men want it that way.

OTHER countries don’t count babies who die soon after birth. For example, babies who die at 1 week old aren’t counted in the average.

The USA does count them.

Thus, the USA average APPEARS like we die earlier.

Try it yourself — average a bunch of ages on paper. Then try it again, but add a couple ages of “zero” to the average.

Your average gets clobbered pretty quick that way.

Actually, it is mostly due to the higher death rate of black male infants who do not reach the age of one. (males, overall have a higher death rate as infants than females). You have about the same death rate of black infants as we do in Oz, but while the US is about 12% black, Oz only has 2%. And the blacks here get as much free health care as can expected.

Also, our Asian population (who live longer) percentage in Oz is about 9% while I think the USA is only around 5%.

There are a lot of thing wrong with the article. They obviously didn’t do their homework. It talks about Australian primary care better than the USA. Aussies don’t even believe in annual physicals, which are common in the USA and financed by companies and government and NGO. We do not have the concept of annual physicals in Oz. The article isn’t worth much.

Statistics are fun, I had to take it in college, the amazing thing is that people believe them. Once you realize how easy it is to put a bias into a poll or statistics you never accept them without questioning them.

Stop beating around the bush with "ethnic backgrounds and subcultures" and just say what you're thinking. This is no time for political correctness.

I don't have the numbers, but I suspect that the life expectancy of urban black males is dragging down the national average, and homicides account for a lot of that.

The Brits do count infant mortality rates different than the US along with the other mortality rates. They count babies born later than the US. The Brits other mortality rates are not as accurate either. They have higher death rates from all kinds of cancer, because they use cheaper drugs and older ones that are not as effective. They also pull the plug on people after a set number of days (regardless of age) and with hold food and water and give pain medication until they die. They list this as natural causes. (not hardly) So their rates are calculated differently. No one tells you that fact.

Libs believe “all things being equal” when they are not. The United States is no longer a nation comprised largely of people descended from people from western Europe let alone the British isles. Biology is destiny. Sorry libs, 4 1/2 chubby folks from south of the border have health conditions quite different from 6 footers from Scandinavia. On the bright side, Asian-Americans are getting taller . . . the woman curvier.

Statistics are fun...

Oh yes. WAY fun. for example:

1/3 of auto accidents are caused by drunk drivers. This means that the OTHER 2/3 are caused by sober drivers. Statistically speaking, driving sober is twice as deadly as driving drunk.
