Facundo Cabral, a wide-roving Argentine musician who had been one of Latin America’s most celebrated folk and protest singers, was shot to death July 9 in Guatemala City. He was 74.

Mr. Cabral, who had given a concert two days earlier in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, was en route to the Guatemala City airport when his vehicle was hit by a hail of bullets in an orchestrated attack involving three carloads of gunmen, the Associated Press reported.

Sounds like he was a Communist, but anyway, rest in peace, poor old guy.

The whole article reads like a mix between Forrest Gump and Joan Baez.

...when his vehicle was hit by a hail of bullets in an orchestrated attack involving three carloads of gunmen,...

I think this is the dictionary definition of 'overkill'

That's how Sonny was taken out in the first Godfather, or at least something similar.

"Mr. Cabral’s wife and infant daughter died in a plane crash in 1978, according to the Associated Press. Wracked by grief, he traveled to India to work in a Calcutta home for people suffering from leprosy, following Mother Teresa’s advice to heal himself through serving the needy."

< C'mon, Tax-chick, that's unfair, isn't it? He can't help it if the fake Menchu-Tum likes to link her name with his; and I'm sure you don't assume that all the itinerant minstrel-preachers with peace-and-poverty themes are Communists. That would sure put Il Poverello in a bad light.

He could care for leprosy patients and still be a Communist. I’m not holding it against him ... the poor fellow’s dead, after all.

"If I am a thief, it's because of private property." - Facundo Cabral

Just one of many quotes from this guy

Wonder if he copyrighted his songs.

Bet he did, don’t you?

Yeah, but he could be embraced by the Communists and not be a Communist. They like to add attractive people to their “popular front” — front. E.g. Abraham Lincoln, who got larded into both gays (”Abe was Gay”, “Log Cabin Republicans”) the Communists (”Abraham Lincoln Brigade”). All that proves is that they use people, dead or alive.

I think he’s an agent of the secretive Opus Dei.

That's the image that sprang to my mind, too. Perhaps there was more to the "celebrated folk singer" than is being disclosed.

Tough crowd, for sure. Wanted more than just their money back!

OH, I’ll bet that’s it. They’re so subtle they can confuse anyone. My catz are probably involved, too.

I sure hope he wasn't killed by a GunRunner gun from Project Castaway that was allowed to walk to Honduras and then cross the border into Guatemala.

Besides, I'm prejudiced in favor of anyone with a name like "Facundo."

Y'Know?

I understand perfectly! My friend Juan’s father was named Juventino Aguilar, “Young Eagle.”

yes i am sure he did. But notice a more important point.

A thief isn't to blame for stealing it is society. Thus he had every moral right to cheat and steal in his mind because it is the society that is corrupt not him.

The most dangerous people are those that have "right on their side"

Oh, I undestand all that.

Just noting the double standard libs have -— regarding other people property (like, say, oil, which should be free) and their property (e.g., intellectual property — songs, movies, etc.)

I got into that with a folk singer one time who sang some crap about land needing to be given away.

I told him I was going to use his tune in a commerical jingle -— he started demanding money, etc, -— I responded -— it’s free, no?

Pretty funny.

Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

Guatemala is fully involved now in cartel activity.

http://www.npr.org/2011/05/30/136690257/mexican-cartels-spread-violence-to-central-america

More deaths from interaction with cartels, than Mexico.

As Cracker put it in the song “Teen Angst”....’What the world needs now/Is another folk singer/Like I need a hole in my head.’
