Wear the shooting glasses... Harbor Freight has cheap safety glasses and eye muffs, even the electronic ones for $15.

or those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

I think that we are at the very least in for a collapse much like that of Argentina’s ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yerKMQc7-w&feature=grec_index), but as a armed society with a very large entitlement minded population our collapse will be much more violent and I see many many small business wiped out by flash mob looting, and large scale violence (look at what happened just this past Memorial Day and 4th of July weekends)we are seeing these mobs grow bolder and bolder like:

Chicago’s CBS 2’s Jim Williams reports, the problem of mob attacks downtown is much bigger than the weekend beatings, according to beat cops who wanted to remain anonymous.”

And it’s not just Chicago, but Washington DC, Las Vegas, St Paul, Philadelphia and on most major big ‘Blue’ cities are increasingly reporting such flash mobs and gang muggings. Look what happened just this past weekend in Peoria, Il:

http://nation.foxnews.com/flash-mob-robberies/2011/07/06/oh-white-girl-bleeds-lot-race-mob-attack-rocks-milwaukee

I see what I call ‘Pocket Pogroms’ taking place in many big ‘Blue’ cities and if you aren’t a “0bamamite yutes” it’s going to get Reginald Denny bad for you very quickly.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.

Underestimation can be fatal.”

Mosins kick like a mule. The Russians didn’t care they were in heavy coats. Hubbie may like one, but you would likely be better off with something in .223/5.56x45 or 5.45x39. You can carry a LOT more of the much lighter ammo and they don’t kick worse than a 12 gauge.

All right, enough of this chain yanking.

We’ve all had fun kidding around about my getting a Mosin-Nagant. I’m old and arthritic, but my reading comprehension is just fine, and I was already familiar with old “kicks like a mule” before reading this thread. I never had any intention of firing a M-N because at best, it would break my shoulder right off.

Why does everybody always tease me?

If we buy one, we’ll probably frame it and hang it on the wall.

I have Hubby’s attention, and he is rifle- and shotgun-shopping. He is going to read this thread, probably later today.

Thank you all for the great links and valuable information. :-)

Although you can find just about every caliber at Gander Mountain their ammo prices are about 20% higher than anywhere else.

Stretch your dollars and try Walmart for the common calibers.

I can’t convince Hubby that 1000 rounds is not enough.

I can't convince Wifey that 1000 rounds is not enough.

Would like a less expensive (not cheap) weapon with scope, mass produced round, and accurate.

I was all hot for a Ruger Mini-14 but because I live in Massachusetts it is difficult to find one that isn't too expensive and doesn't have banned features like folding stock and flash suppressor.

So I changed tactics and just picked up a sweet deal this week.

I have a favorite shop in Rhode Island which is run buy an ex-CT State Trooper. He has consignment pieces. I started looking at 30-06 or 30-30 lever action rifles like the Marlin 94 or Winchester. Expensive, yes...but....I found a Mossberg 479 30-30 lever action he had for 250 bucks! Near mint condition.
A sweet piece indeed. I've read good things about this model and I love Mossberg products. It came with no rear sight but has a Picatinny rail in its place. I mounted a scope to it and can't wait to get to the range to fine tune the zero on the scope.

Long range (ish) and a decently potent calibre. I've completed my arsenal.
Full size and sub-compact 9mm pistols, Mossberg 12Ga 500A tactical shotgun, low and high calibre rifles...one semi-auto.

Now it's off to the shows to stock up on ammo.

Thank you very much! I got similar advice upthread about this place:

http://www.bulkammo.com/

Hubby placed an order Wednesday afternoon, and the ammo arrived yesterday afternoon.

He doesn’t believe that TS is going to HTF, so he’s a bit of a hard sell.

Have him think of it this way;

He's not buying ammo to have on hand to kill Zombies and bad guys if the SHTF.
He's converting soon-to-be worthless dollars into tangible assets that will likely be usable as currency should an economic meltdown occur.
.22 LR ammo will be the new quarter or even dollar.

Look at it this way...all it would take would be a prolonged Teamsters strike (which is coming) or for Welfare checks to stop flowing and the cities will erupt. That eruption will spread outward. The ammo may be necessary for it's primary purpose. Or it could be used as barter with sane folks you may know who have laid in supplies. There are many angles and no downside to stocking up. You can always sell it again for cash if a Constitutionally literate government happens to spring up and the world is once again filled with rainbows and songbirds.

Wow, a one day delivery?

Did you partner up with anyone else to split an order?

That's why I'm always drooling over the gun porn threads.

What'll it take for you to leave your husband and marry me?

Hubby did a test buy before placing a larger order for ourselves, our gun-totin’ friends, and his coworkers.

He was very happy with the products and (obviously) the delivery. They must be around here someplace because he didn’t ask for overnight.

Check out budsgunshop.com. Great selection of firearms at good prices. Many ship free. They also have a 90-day lay away program. You'd have to find a local FFL to handle the transfer. Most FFL's don't charge too much for that service. Bud's has an FFL Search on their home page, so you can find one close by.

Did you compare to “cheaperthandirt.com?” Just wondering. They’re supposed to be pretty cheap as well.
