Will the mercury in those bulbs contaminate the garbage men, the landfill, the ground water? Anyone know?

The trash man is probably at a pretty low risk, but ultimately all the mercury in the CFL lamps that aren't properly recycled will end up in the earth, and hence the ground water, or to some extent in the air due to incineration of trash containing CFLs. In the long run we will probably regret ever introducing large numbers of them into the economy.

Well, I wonder if all those lawyers with the 800 numbers need a new victim to soak. Seems CF manufactures would fit the bill nicely.

In the meantime, I intend to make sure the word about Tom Reed's vote gets out.
