Puppies abandoned in a taped box [in 110+ heat]

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) A college student home for the summer came across a strange box in the middle of the road in the Florence, only to find two abandoned puppies.

When Florence resident Dani Ball opened the taped box she found two puppies, left to die on the side of the road.

Ball says instinct took over and she was determined to save the small animals.

"I've been crawling around in dog cages since I [could] crawl," laughs Ball.

Dani was babysitting when she got a call from a neighbor about a mysterious package sitting on the side of the road, and she had to investigate. Emerging from a damp box came on chocolate and one black puppy. Both were damp and appeared to be very scared.

"I told the little boy [I was caring for] not to touch them, and I put the box in the wagon and I was walking down the street," explains Ball.

The puppies, left for dead in a taped box, were covered in fleas, ticks and ants leaving them with sores all over their bodies.

"It was pitiful. We gave them water and I've never seen animals jump at water so quickly," says Ball.

Dani's mom was quick to help care for the wounded pups.

...

The City of Florence Animal Control was out Monday transporting stray animals to the shelter, but this situation doesn't even come as a surprise to them.

"We see a lot worse than that," claims Jackie Metts, City of Florence Animal Control. "We steady ride and if we see something running or in the road we stop, we catch it."

I should note that the 110+ heat is the heat index, not actual temp. But I’d bet it isn’t cooler in box that’s taped closed and sitting in the sun.

Looks like the labels on the box could be scrutinized by police to determine who put them in the box.

What do you suppose the first language is of the “staff” that wrote this story.

Certainly can’t be English.

Which was it? Who writes this stuff?

Regardless, I hope they find the culprit that abandoned them like that.

And it's possible that Caylee Anthony crawled into 3 bags and taped her own mouth shut. /s

When I was about 12 (long ago) I was riding my bike home from school. I heard a pitiful sound coming from the ditch. I investigated and found a half grown cat in a canvas bag that was securely tied. Kitty became a special friend. There have always been cruel monsters around.

My two muttley female dogs wanted to bite somebody when I read them this story. The people who left the box in the road had better hope the police catch them first.

You can judge a nation by how it treats its animals. I will NEVER return to Europe after seeing how they abuse and treat their dogs and cats like trash.

From the same page as the link above

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The people at PETS, Inc. see animals come through the door in bad shape everyday, but some there say this one takes the cake.

A dog they’ve named “Cowboy,” walked in their doors timidly Saturday with a tennis ball in his mouth, bite wounds from the nose to tail, underweight and dehydrated. When they opened his mouth to determine his age, they were shocked to see that all of his teeth had been broken or sawed off, indicating that he had been used as a “bait dog” to train juvenile Pit Bulls for fighting.

The skinny Pit Bull was found on Friday on Sandy Run Road in Gaston, an area that has produced other abused dogs, according to PETS, Inc. Cowboy’s neck has a gray ring of broken hair typical of a dog who has struggled against a chain, shelter employees said.

“It’s just an amazing thing that a dog could have been through as much as he’s been through and still be so accepting and gentle with people,” said Jane Brundage. He was solely focused on the tennis ball that was given to him by the young woman who found him.

“It’s time that we all spread the word and ask everyone to keep their eyes open for suspicious illegal behavior in that area,” a PETS, Inc. representative said. “The HSPCA has a standing reward of $5,000 for anyone with information that will lead to a conviction for dog fighting in South Carolina. Gaston is a great place to start looking.”

“His mouth is a real big concern because we know all that’s going to have to be addressed we don’t know how much surgery is going to be involved,” said Brundage. “But, he can’t go the rest of his life without addressing this because the roots are still in there and they’re all damaged and broken and cracked and not good.”

“I think the only constant in his life until this point was a tennis ball, which is very sad,” said Brundage. “He’s such a wonderful dog no one ever gave a chance to.”

Meanwhile, Cowboy is resting with a foster family. He is not currently available for adoption because PETS, Inc. employees are still doing a medical evaluation and other tests on the dog. According to the folks at PETS, Inc., he seems to be excellent with small children and oddly indifferent to other dogs.

PETS, Inc. is accepting donations to help with Cowboy’s surgery. You can help by calling 803-739-9333.

If you know anything about this incident, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

Wife and I just got back trom a month of R.V. camping in Arkansas with two of our dogs.
We met a lady with several well behaved dogs and she said whe had found one tied to a tree and left in the woods a few years before.
Nearly starved and dehydrated she said it was the most loyal pup she ever had.

Some people are just incredibly sick. Seems like they just get their kicks out of causing some animal unnecessary pain or death. Be it dogs or sitting in the backyard within the city limits and shooting squirrels, just because they have a rifle and can. Even though its illegal to use a firearm within the city. He even put a silencer on it which just goes to show that he knows he’s doing wrong. That person is bi polar and killing for the heck of it. Expect to see him on the news some day. :(

Oh, Lord, that just wrenches my heart. Good on you for saving the kitty.

My brother managed to befriend a kitty that’s been hanging around their house for months. It was almost Christmas before Kitty trusted him enough to go to him. She was skin and bones and not much longer for the world. They bathed her and got her to the vet. Eventually, he gave her to me. Still nursing respiratory problems but she’s so much better than when I first got her from him months ago. Also happily fat and sassy. She has no interest in going outside - pretty sure she knows she’s got it made here. :o)

Here in the U.S. you have to have a special costly stamp to use a silencer.
In Europe they usually hunt using one, saves getting others worried or something.
As for people that abuse animals, it is a very good indicator that they may abuse people in their future.

You can’t purchase a silencer without a stamp? This is a family of hunters, they may have had one for a long time. This isn’t exactly a law abiding family! lol

Go online, you can find the plans to make one.
If you use it and get caught good luck.
Use a soda bottle or a simple lawn mower exhaust works reasonabley also.
BUT get a good one from a known manufacturer in Germany.
With the gub mints ok.
