BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — For some believers and church leaders, opposing Alabama's toughest-in-the-nation law against illegal immigration is a chance for Bible Belt redemption.
During the civil rights movement of the 1950s and `60s, many state churches didn't join the fight to end Jim Crow laws and racial segregation. Some cross-burning Ku Klux Klan members took off their hoods and sat in the pews with everyone else on Sunday mornings, and relatively few white congregations actively opposed segregation. Some black churches were hesitant to get involved for fear of white backlash.
Now that Alabama has passed what's widely considered the nation's most restrictive state law against illegal immigration, mainstream churches, faith-based organizations and individual members are leading opposition to the act. Some see their involvement as a way to avoid repeating mistakes of the past.
"I think what happened in the `60s may be a stimulus for the action that you have seen many of the churches taking on this," said Chriss H. Doss, an attorney and ordained Southern Baptist minister.
Matt Lacey, pastor of a United Methodist church once attended by Birmingham's infamous segregationist police commissioner Eugene "Bull" Connor, said there are all sorts of reasons Alabama Christians are opposed to the law. Making amends for the past inaction of religious groups is among them, he said.
"For me, as pastor of a church that was engaged in that battle, it is very important," said Lacey. "If we take redemption very seriously, then it not only covers our sins but our past actions as a church. I think for some, there is a tendency to want to be on the side of right on this issue. ... I would like to think the church just wants to do what's right."

Probable, but the important factor is that churches that are members of the National Counsel of Churches are commies in all but name.
So, have the Episcopals taken up blood, or have the Methodists abandoned it?
It must come down to filling the pews filled.The Baptists membership is on the decline so much to the extent they passed amnesty,the dream act and they want a path to citizenship for all illegals. The church see illegals mainly the many have low educations and want ask so many questions,, the baptists see illegals as future memebers they can mold and shape into what they want. The church overlooks, hispanics have the highest Out-of-Wedlock Births , many from Mexico, they have families in Mexico and once they move here, the men are incline to frequent brothels, designed for illegals. The brothels have developed a series of standard operating practices, experts say. Among them:
•Once the girls and women are in the United States and under the traffickers’ control, they are moved from one brothel to another in rapid succession, rarely spending more than one or two weeks in one place. The rotations prevent disoriented victims from establishing roots or escaping, and keep faces fresh for customers.
•Most advertise, sometimes in the classifieds of Spanish-language newspapers, or more frequently by handing out “tarjetas,” business cards with codes for brothels, on the street. An officer from the Chicago vice squad told NBC News that his group uncovered boxes of business cards during a recent brothel raid that advertised tacos and burritos for delivery 24-hours a day. Potential customers are screened on the telephone or at the door to make sure they are members of the targeted ethnic group.
•Within the brothel, usually a typical house or apartment, a unique accounting strategy uses tokens such as poker chips and marbles, which are purchased by the “johns” and given as proof of purchase to the women and girls to keep track of how many men have visited them. A token, which costs $30 in the majority of cases, buys 15 minutes of sex in a sparse bedroom. According to the Polaris Project, an organization that operates a national hotline and offers services for victims of all types of human trafficking,one victim reported that she was forced to have sex with 55 men in one day.Churchs overlooks that, overlooks using fake or stolen documents, overlooks driving without licenses/insurance, the church has losts it’s way and just see what they want to see
Those churches might be guilty of practices that should cost them their tax-excempt status.
