McConnell: "I refuse to help Barack Obama get re-elected"
HotAir.com ^ | 07/13/2011 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 07/13/2011 2:16:45 PM PDT by izzatzo

Laura Ingraham grills Mitch McConnell on his Plan Z option, floated yesterday as a last-ditch approach to the debt ceiling issue, and McConnell argues the benefits of the plan as a defense of Republicans against getting saddled with blame for economic damage done during a potential default. Ingraham asks McConnell whether he’s positioning as a “realist,” and McConnell says that reality will be that Obama won’t compromise in this process. If not, and Republicans don’t blink, Obama will have the upper hand:

You’re the one that’s not up to speed. This plan has to pass Congress, which requires GOP votes, and then Obama gets to propose the cuts. First, Congress votes on ceding the authority for the President to raise the debt ceiling up to 2.3 trillion dollars unless two thirds of both houses vote it down. After that initial bill is made “law,” Obama is supposed to come back three times with cuts if he wants to, and then he gets his debt ceiling raise unless two-thirds of both houses oppose it. The substantive effect of this plan is Congress capitulates to the President and the deficit continues as is.

NO. So you’re willing to do “whatever it takes”? Including destroying the Constitution and the nation in the process? McConnell’s scheme is like burning down your own house (the U.S. Constitution) to get rid of a rat(DemoRAT, Obama). Just like in the cartoons and in the movies, the rat always survives, but in the end, your dog-gone house is burned to the ground in stupid attempts at killing the rat.

If the Republicans wanted to stop Obama, they can do it without destroying the Constitution. The liar in chief has already done several things that are impeachable offenses, but they won’t do it. They are not even investigating the question of Obama being illegal for the office! The question needs to raised and answered once and for all about natural born status. The wimpy Republicans are just that... wimpy, weak and pathetic. Where are the real, strong, God-fearing, conservatives who will take on the liar Obama lawfully and legally?!

Playing gold with Obama? Sorry bad joke but seeing Boner playing golf with Obama was sad with the way things are headed.

Mitch has no idea that he’s fighting the last war with transparently calculated subterfuge.

“Obama will assert that he has the authority to extend the debt ceiling under the 14th Amendment.”

Why not force him to do it before caving in? Obama could be bluffing and will never have the guts. If Obama really does it and the Supreme Court lets him get away with it, Congress could pass a debt limit extension at any time.

It will be the “sons on a beach” opposing Barry the Bastard.

And we shall never ever surrender

I see some value here.

There is. Rush criticized McConnell today, but his heart wasn't in it. He even said he understood why people were supporting the proposal.

I want a clean deal, too. But McConnell's no dummy to push the whole mess onto Obama if he won't negotiate.

The bottom of the plan is the debt ceiling is raised without spending cuts.

Surrendering responsibility.

The GOP will still be held responsible for surrendering their responsibility.

“Plan B” shows the GOP does not deserve to win

I’m going with McConnel on this one.

Obama knows 10% unemployment and a recession is inevitable at this point. If the debt ceiling is not raised Obama and the media will blame it on the Republicans and all economic woes will be dump in the laps of the GOP? And, yes the American people are that STUPID. Why do you think a vacuous, neophyte, coke head, puppet was elected president with vague promises of change?

Raise it now and let Obama wallow in the economic excrement he and the Dems created. Once a real fiscal conservative is elected president, cut, cut, cut.

I should have made the timeline more clear.

I think Obama will invoke the 14th Amendment on August 1st, then look at Boehner to “negotiate” the budget deal.

A lot = most, including his abortion loving wife, and mother. Parino is just a cute talking head socialist light. Ask her what she thinks oh Bachman or Palin and watch the veins pop out on her neck as she tries not to get real nasty.

If she took Beckels position, no one would notice.

The alternative to wimpy, is complicit, and at this point I am willing to consider the latter.

I see Dana Perino saying McConnel was doing the right thing, and she doesn't seem to get it either. Seems a lot of the Bush staffers were RINOs too.

I think that it was that "Compassionate Conservative" thingy.
