There are too many people in the room to work out a deal to raise the debt ceiling, House Speaker John Boehner complained on Thursday night as negotiations between President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans stay stuck in a stalemate.
Whatever gets suggested, it gets debated to no end, the Ohio Republican said on Fox Newss On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.
The rooms too big. You know, too many people are in there trying to negotiate what is a very difficult could be and will be a very difficult agreement. And theres just too many people in there pouring cold water on virtually every idea that gets thrown on the table.
The negotiations, Boehner said, have left the president frustrated and the rest of us are frustrated, too.
Ive been pushing the president all year to address this in a big way, he said. I dont want to do some half-hearted thing. I dont want to do some half-baked gimmick. Weve got a problem. The American people sent us here to solve the problem. So why dont we do what were supposed to do, solve the problem?

Boehner and the republicans should be holding a press conference everuy damn day. In no uncertain terms, they should be telling Americans EXACTLY what the democrat party wants to do.
Instead, they’re letting themselves get pushed around because of their PTSD-like fear that someone might call them unfair. Wake the fuck up, GOP... our country is at stake.
Well, that's an excellent question.
The President has a role in this process, which is to sign, veto, or take no action on a budget passed by the House and the Senate.
Why leaders of the House are even TALKING to him now is most curious.
Actually, he should eliminate the White House from the negotiations. The budget is the responsibility of the House. Caligula is included only as a courtesy. He has worn out his welcome and should be shown the door.
HA! That would be fun to watch.
“”The American people sent us here to solve the problem. So why dont we do what were supposed to do, solve the problem?””
I heard him say this last night as I walked through the living room. Is he kidding? We NEVER send them there to SOLVE PROBLEMS. They cause our problems, why would we ask them to solve them? We send them there to do the right thing - as easy as ABC and yet it always develops into this crap!
By their own actions, they are showing us what THEY want to do.
Forget the democrats - pay attention to the Republicans, because THAT'S where the problem is at the moment.
Absolutely. Replace Boner and Cantor with people that really run the GOP.
Grover Norquist. Bill Kristol. Rush Limbaugh. Koch Brothers. Gary Bauer. Tony Perkins
They are buying into the scare tactics. Let me get this straight, if the government goes along with a 2.5T raise in the debt level which brings it to over 17T, which it will reach in 18 months, which also means more than a 15% increase now, our interest rates will not be affected? This is all BS. It gets even worse when they say, well, we will seek a balanced budget amendment, IN FIVE YEARS OUT.
My advice, don't raise the debt limit, go on a pay as you go basis. Everything beyond the line of income just does not get paid, period, end of story.
Meanwhile, from what I see now, Bonehead is going along with the POS’ plan now. He is stiffing the conservatives in his party and is using these scare tactics as the reason why. Not only is he sinking the country in debt beyond repair, he has just handed the POS reelection and ensured the GOP will be the minority party forever.
Dump Obama and things will get done the proper way.
The GOP has a majority in the House; which means his ultimate rhetorical question here is really aimed at his own performance.
So, why doesn't Boehner with his GOP majority in Congress solve the problem, and pass legislation to effect fiscal sanity? That's what they were sent to Congress to do, and they aren't doing it.
Whatever happened to committee hearings and open meetings with “debate” leading to the proposal of a bill. How old fashioned, I guess.
Nope. He's just a convenient dumb-ass scapegoat, at this point.
CONGRESS has complete and total control over both federal spending and federal borrowing. It can dissolve the Federal Reserve tomorrow, if it has the will.
Boehner and company need an exit summary such as:
“America’s debt and spending problems will NOT be solved by threats, cliches, and sound bites. That is why Senator Cantor and I have come prepared with plans, policies, and proposals, to tackle these difficult issues. The President and his people have failed to present any budget or plan to curtail the current spending trend and cap the current debt crisis. The government needs to get out of the way of free enterprise, provide a predictable regulatory environment, and stop penalizing success!”
Any pretense that government spending and regulation can possibly replace free enterprise is contrary to lessons of failed policies, throughout history.”
DAMMIT~! DAMMIT~! DAMMIT~! DAMMIT~! DAMMIT~!
WE DONT WANT TO "RAISE THE DEBT CEILING" - CUT OFF HIS CREDIT CARD~!
RAISE IT AND YOU ARE FUNDING YOUR OWN DESTRUCTION IN THE NEXT ELECTION
I’ll tell you why there are SO many people involved with this.
What ever the solution is...NO ONE wants his/her fingerprints on it!!!
The initiative and decisiveness necessary to getting things done and done properly, has been bred out of Americans.... LONG ago. Instead of individuals who are accountable and competent, we now have committees, groups, agencies.... NO ONE wants to (knows how to) take responsibility.
I wish we had a Harry Truman, Margaret Thatcher or a Reagan.... a stand alone, honorable and decisive individual who has the strength of his/her convictions and the resolve to follow through on the plan
You are exactly correct.
This negotiation with the Executive Branch is simply put...wrong. It is not how our legislature is supposed to operate.
The President is not part of the House or Senate. He should not be in the room. He is trying to micromanage the GOP and the GOP has fallen into the trap.
We need to get Boehner out of the room, back to presiding over the floor of the House, and pushing a debt ceiling bill up to the Senate.
CONGRESS won’t make a move it’s more about party power then the budget the dems fear what Obama can do to them if they lift a finger,Pelosi is arm twisting now it’s why she isn’t in io the talks.
That only works, however, when the rest of the room is passive. The GOP is (finally) no longer passive, thanks to the TEA parties, in my opinion. The house will simply not pass a tax hike, nor a stand-alone debt limit increase, no matter what the Loudmouth-in-Chief says.
