I’ve been hearing whispers that Michele Bachmann’s husband, Marcus, is gay for a while. It’s now exploding into a full-on meme.
Given my early bedtime, I’m always at least a day late on “Daily Show” bits. Last night, I saw this episode from Wednesday:

Now, I admit, Marcus Bachmann is pudgy and has a less-than-baritone voice. But, last I checked, those aren’t the distinguishing characteristics of homosexuality.
Apparently, gay activist Dan Savage has started pushing the meme hard, too. And Slate’s June Thomas is calling him out:
Dan Savage begins each of his “Savage Love Cast” podcasts with a rip-roaring rant—a sword of invective aimed at homophobic school boards that won’t let lesbians attend their high-school prom, hypocritical politicians, and generally despicable people. It’s a rousing start to 45 minutes of sex advice, and it’s usually right on and empowering.
This week, though, the podcast started with an attack on Marcus Bachmann’s masculinity.After a short preamble about the accuracy of gaydar (with a scientific citation, no less), Savage—whom I respect tremendously—played a tape of Michele’s* husband’s speaking voice. Bachmann has a tiny bit of a lisp—though it’s barely perceptible—and he slurs his words slightly. To Savage’s ears, it was a gay accent. Savage played the tape over and over, and reprised it several times throughout the podcast. He even did his own Bachmann impression, exaggerating the lisp and camping it up.

No, they’re implying that if Marcus Bachmann is gay, he should be honest and come out or stop trying to “cure” other gays.
They will try to mock our candidate. But we have to prevent such an easy mock. This was easy to see in advance. And it’s just going to get worse. Because it is extremely funny to a majority of Americans.
At least it's just for a while. As opposed to some politicians we know, who are permanent @$#%!s (You fill in the blank.)
I am a NYer....upstate........I don’t know much about Perry, but things look mixed. I like Sarah....her only neg for me is leaving office early, and that is not a deal breaker. I like Michelle.....my hesitation is whether she can really win, and I had my doubts before this smear campaign.

Why? People will vote for her base on what she stands for and the policies she will fight for, not because of lame attacks made by people like these.
No, it’s easy to figure out that when a guy who cures gays with prayer seems gay himself, most Americans will find that extremely funny.
I’ve been saying this is fatal to Bachmann since this story broke. It’s just the way it is.
Thanks for making my point. If a critical mass of morons in the American electorate truly decides how to vote based on the antics of a troupe of buffoons, this Great Republic is dead. Their votes will be cast for the worst, rather than the best, possible candidate. We got a preview of this in 2008.

Nope. A huge section of the American public doesn’t care about those policies and whatnot. They will believe that Marcus, and by extension, Michelle are ridiculous jokes.

O’Donnell should just move into the slot vacated by Bachmann when she drops out.

I recently had a debate with someone who started telling me that he knows some people are born homosexual because he had a nephew who everyone could tell by his mannerisms was according to him. I then asked him about all of the people who have had similar mannerisms in the past (like a cousin of mine that people claimed was homosexual) but never were what people claimed? He started implying that they were just hiding it from the shame caused by bigots and that my cousin was a homosexual but hiding it. I told him he was the bigot and it is disgraceful that he should disparage people based upon there mannerisms this way.
The troupe of buffoons will verbally assault any and every politician they dislike. Will a critical mass of morons in the electorate continue to believe the buffoons? Do you believe that the buffoonery is merely humor for its own sake?

Now??? It's their stock in trade, and has been for years. Who is it that divides the electorate into the "black vote", "white vote", "womens vote", "Jewish vote", etc. Who is it that encourages group-think? Does this not come from the left?

Bachmann is screwed. But we’re not screwed. Todd Palin does not cure homosexuality with prayer. He wins dogsled races. He’s kickass. Carol Paul is a 70 year old lady who bakes cookies. Her and Ron have been married over 50 years. I don’t know offhand about Herman Cain’s wife, but I doubt she cures homosexuality with prayer.
How many times do I have to tell you that you are no longer welcome to babysit my kids?
Actually, it is intrinsically funny. It is. Sorry. And there’s much more to the Bachmann’s that’s funny, or bad, or weird.

0bama looks and acts like a flamer. The professional buffoons don't tell people to laugh at 0bama; they don't mock his effeminate mannerism.
The problem isn't the sodomite thing.
The problem is the "getting your political ideas from buffoons" thing. If you're right, if a critical mass of folks in the American electorate really do decide how to vote based on the antics of buffoons, then we're screwed. Such an electorate can be relied upon to select the worst of all possible candidates.
Todd Palin being "kickass" is irrelevant. It just means that the buffoons will need some other angle to mock the Palins. Same with Mr. & Mrs. Paul, Mr. & Mrs. Cain.
