House turns off light bulb standards by voice vote
The Politco ^ | July 15, 2011 | DARREN GOODE

The House on Friday morning moved to block federal light bulb efficiency standards without even a roll call vote.

An amendment from Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) defunding the Energy Department's standards for traditional incandescent light bulbs to be 30 percent more energy efficient starting next year was approved rather anticlimactically by voice vote.

The success of the amendment appeared inevitable in the House, where the fate of the incandescent light bulb became a symbol in the fight against federal regulations.

Democrats and the White House have opposed the move to block the standards, which were included in a 2007 energy bill signed by President George W. Bush. DOE has said the standards could save consumers $6 billion a year.

Only the government would force people to purchase light bulbs with poisonous material in them.

LOL.....it’s a little harder to store toilets than light bulbs. I hold down the handle and it releases more water.....if that doesn’t work I flush again. Not saving much water in this house....it’s just a pain in the butt. Get a TOTO....they work GREAT!

In addition to the fact that if you're heating your house, CFLs save save no energy.

Every BTU that the bulb puts out is a BTU your heater doesn't have to. So you can reduce any expected year round energy savings from CFLs by 1/3 to 1/2, depending on your climate and type of heating system.

"If we all want to reduce greenhouse gases we can go back to burning whale oil for our lighting. The Envirowhackos would love that."

The other day I was approached by two Greenpeace activists with signature clipboards outside the supermarket. "Would you like to help save the whales?" they asked. I replied, "Whales? Oh, I love whales... [beat]... I had some on a salad in Kyoto a few years ago."

They looked cattle-prodded. It was delicious. (Which was more than I could say for the salad.)

Right after the ban some people made good money in black market toilets. They aren’t as popular now as they were.

This is great! I’ve been stockpiling incandescents for two years, thinking they’d be unavailable starting next year. I can’t believe the Republicans worked this around the Democrat Nazis!

Eliminate the DOE.

Simple argument for that:

Department of Energy was started with the goal of reducing America's dependence on foreign oil.

How have they done? Are they a success or a failure? Are we more dependent on foreign oil now than before they were formed?

If we simply used the formula of "What is your purpose? Show us your successes or failures." we could eliminate half of the Federal Government by merely showing they cannot live up to their charters!

Why reward failure? Defund! Eliminate!

The day the light bulb nazis decided it was THEIR right to tell us how to light our homes, rather than ours was the day this country went from being in trouble to being in danger.

Before that, they made my toilet and showerhead illegal.

I always have thought the watershed moment was when the Federales withheld highway money to force seatbelt laws on us.

Libs really aren’t about “choice”.

I think people ought ot be able to choose what kinds of bulbs are in their houses. My personal preference is I like lights that don’t generate a lot of heat and use as little energy as possible while having the longest possible lifespan as they can. But I have a bunch of different choices in bulbs to pick from. And if I want an inexpensive regular old bulb because I need a temporary replacement, I want to be able to get one, to

During Prhibition, my father would periodically buy compressed blocks of a certain grain, hop, and yeast mixture that carried a prominent warning label:

WARNING! Mixing the contents of this package with 5 gallons of water, and... (rest of the detailed beer recipe followed) ...is a VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW!

Unlikely, Getting goverment to give back the freedoms it usurped from us is 10 times harder then getting the Government to take them freedoms in the first place.

If his act is a symbol of Big Government, then its defeat will likely be Pyrrhic one. The Federal Government is an uncontainable power hungry beast. It is already far too big for us to effectively control.

Instead this goverment now see itself as the Master and us the servants.

Good point. That was the first time they decided to mandate something “for our own good” – making themselves the ones who decide what “good” is.

No because the Senate will never take it up.

The Senate never took up the budget passed from the House. The Senate never took up the repeal of Obama care padded up from the House.

Dingy Harry is the obstruction and the reason the House must stand firm on the debt

The House should today tell the President.....make Dingy Harry vote on Obama care repeal and the budget and then we’ll talk about the debt ceiling.
