Libya: world leaders kick start peace negotiations as US recognises rebels

World leaders on Friday told a UN special envoy to negotiate a peace deal with Col Gaddafi that could see Libyan leader stay in the country after stepping down.

Abdul Elah al-Khatib, the special envoy, was asked by the Turkish foreign minister, host of a one-day summit attended by Nato and other leaders, to present a peace deal in the next two weeks.

It would have to be negotiated first not only with Col Gaddafi but with the rebel leadership in Benghazi.

Nato also increased the military and diplomatic pressure on the Gaddafi regime in careful mix of carrot and stick.

William Hague, the foreign secretary, said Britain was committing four more Tornado reconnaissance aircraft to the bombing campaign against Libya.

The United States said it was formally recognising the rebel Transitional National Council as the “legitimate governing authority” for Libya, a decision that could free up funds seized from the regime under United Nations resolutions.

Gadafi will survive to dance on the grave of the Transitional Government, and will certainly survive the Obama presidency.

Kudos to Gadhafi. He deserves a medal for being a former ally of the USA and killing Islamists and their recruiters in Eastern Libya during the Iraq war.Obama unilaterally ended that, for NO REASON other than support of the Muslim Brotherhood.

But Gadhafi will not come to any table, for Obama will try to have him assassinated. The Bedouin will pace the wilds of the desert long after Obama is gone, and Gadhafi will remain among them. And he will return to rule.

Gadaffi is one bad ass genius.

The pros and cons of his history of harming and helping the US are largely irrelevant to the previous sentence.

THAT . . . is what brilliance and resolve can accomplish for itself.

When it comes time for the oil to flow, you just watch. He’ll sell to Sudan, Chad, Niger and Tunisia at Brent minus $10.

Italy and the rest of Europe will pay Brent + $300.

One word: REPARATIONS

Oh yeah, that should work. Everyone's gone to the Soetero School of Negotiation, apparently. Thanks Hojczyk.
