10 Signs That The Americans Have Begun Freaking Out About The State Of The Economy
Business Insider ^ | 7/18/11 | Michael Snyder, The Economic Collapse

Posted on 07/18/2011 7:15:06 PM PDT by Nachum

All over America, restlessness and frustration are growing. It has now been almost three years since the great financial crash of 2008, and yet the U.S. economy is still a complete and total mess.

Click here to see the facts >

In fact, there are all sorts of signs that things are about to get even worse, and the American people are just about fed up.

Virtually every major poll, survey and measure of consumer confidence shows that the American people are becoming more pessimistic about the economy.

Millions of hard working Americans that worked their fingers to the bone for their employers and that did everything "right" are sitting at home on their couches tonight staring blankly at the television. Many of them still have a hard time believing that they were laid off and that there is nobody out there that wants to give them a good job.

There are millions of other Americans that won't get much sleep tonight because they will spend much of the night rolling around in bed wondering how they are possibly going to be able to pay the mortgage. We have never faced such an extended economic downturn in modern U.S. history, and a lot of people are starting to freak out about the condition of the economy. As Gerald Celente likes to say: "When people lose everything and have nothing left to lose - they lose it."

I have been “anti-consumer” since gas hit $4. Before the gas crunch I’d drive to the product, no problem. Since then, I limit to a walkable/2 mile radius and that made a huge difference in my spending. Since getting a Kindle, I spend significantly less a month because I am not in a Target/Walmart/the strip mall with Borders and picking up other things (of course I accidentally ran out of soap once due to this).

It doesn’t help that my favorite store, Talbot’s, has kind of gone Obama too.

I am buying more and more at farmer’s markets. I gardened, but the local rabbits got me good this year. I am building protection for the late summer/fall planting.

So, like you, when Mrs. Palin takes her “oats” I think I will be ready to spread my wings again.

DITTO!!!! China invented silk and kept it a national secret for centuries. US makes innovations in computer chips and software and our corporations were chomping at the bit to teach the low cost Chinese and Indian engineers and technicians on how to manufacture it. Funny how all those free traitor freepers glorify free trade, open exchange of technologies at the price of US jobs because it is all about money, yet they are the first to freak when the PLA somehow gets knowledge to build and upgrade their weapons. Free traitor freepers have the same mental disease as liberals (doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result). If this country collapses and a new order (probably a dictatorship), free traitors and liberals should be rounded up and sent to labor camps in Alaska and worked to death for all the middle class suffering.

“My biggest wish would be for Freepers to report in anonymously on this thread as to what they are really seeng and hearing and experiencing at the grassroots these days. It might help to know which state it is in. Also, what people generally in their circles (work, family, friends, apolitical associates) think NOW of Obongo after 2 1/2 years of it.”

A good friend will be moving out of state with her elderly father this week.

She has looked for work for three years. Nothing.

They are out of UI and savings are depleted and welfare with social security can not keep them fed. They have no debt; they just can’t pay the rent, buy food, and keep their utilities.

They are moving in with family. They had no other choice.

That’s outrageous. Shows you how much power the govt has, and how much power IT KNOWS it has, when they can simply lie, just make up numbers to gouge you.

Good for you for fighting, but maybe if you were an elderly lady a bit intimidated whose husband passed away and used to handle all that financial stuff, then you would be in a sweet spot for the govt. Some folks are unsure of their rights and will just pay the bill, even selling valuables, rather than face the confrontation of a dispute meeting.

It would make far more sense for us as a nation to stop committing economic suicide, and work together against our real enemies.

Before we lose everything.

Who are our real enemies? I contend that it is not the uzzlim jihadists or the illegal aliens infesting our country. Our real enemies are the RAT bastard socialist-marxist demoRATs & public sector unions. Our country is divided as never before into 2 ideological camps.....those who are patriotic conservative Americans, and the evil RAT bastard socialist demoRATs & unions. 0dumb0 could rape & roast a young girl on stage and the demoRATs & unions would still vote for him. 45% of this country are dumber than dirt or just plain evil & hate America. 45% are conservatives and 10% are independents who are so fickle as to not know what or who to vote for. I am convinced we need two countries -- conservatives & patriotic Americans on one side and the RAT bastard socialist demoRATs & unions on the other side. They can build their house of cards socialist utopia to the misguided heart's content. But they can never be permitted to come over to the conservative side. Let the stew in their socialist filth.

Maybe it wasn't such a great idea to send all of our consumer products manufacturing to China...

These ships return to China so empty they are designed to take on water as ballast.

I may be a minority with my philosophy but the day he was nominated I swore I would be an anti-consumer as much as possible.

I did the exact same thing. In my house, if something breaks I either repair it (if I can..) or we question whether or not we need to replace the item.

Aside from food and clothing (and one piece of USED Amateur radio equipment for myself) we haven't purchased ANYTHING NEW since the asshole in the White House got elected.

I view it as my personal mission to not buy a single new item in order to make the Socialist/Marxist in the White House look as bad as possible.

I have TWO YEARS of expenses saved up as a result, owe ZERO on credit cards, and my two vehicles (2005 GMC Envoy Denali, 2007 Honda Oddysey Touring mini-van) I paid cash for when I acquired them. What's left on my mortgage isn't worth paying off at this point, and why should I with free-falling home prices?

I hope every asshole that voted for Obama is suffering - badly - so they think twice about re-electing the worthless poc in 2012.

Yeah, I'm hard-ass about it.

It’s real. New unlived in houses going unsold. Older houses? Cheap cheap cheap. No jobs except restaurant or fast food or the Indian casino down the road (if you’re Indian). In a word it’s BAD. Over 50 and need a job? forgetaboutit. Hope and Change ain’t working. It would take at least 4 years of drastic changes to undo what that Marxist did.

I saw that Border’s is liquidating today and frankly I am not surprised. I write creatively for fun and have a piece I think might sell if I finish it. A good friend left a twenty year career in publishing recently. I told her that I thought about selling my book electronically and not working through a publisher. She will help me with marketing and making sure my work is available through all of the electronic distributors when I am ready to go, but thinks my plan is a better approach than working through the traditional publishing industry. She got out because she wanted to leave NYC and she thinks publishing is a dying industry.

Maybe all the GOP has to do in 2012 is to just rerun all of Obama’s “HOPE and CHANGE” commercials as is from 2008. And at the end, have a guy alone in an echo-ey studio, just laughing w/ fade out and then screen fade to black, with “Four MORE Years??”

I’m disinvesting everything... and paying off every debt I can... then I may just leave with my family for several years until this cleans itself up. I like South America... I used to like Japan.

I hear you. It’s a vicious cycle. Because we DON’T know what the Obama administration will do next to make things worse, we are not out spending money, hiring/expanding businesses etc. Uncertainty is not only the worst thing for the stock market, it’s the worst thing for consumers too. Who would be willing to risk everything they own to open a business today? You don’t know what your taxes will be next year, you have no idea what healthcare will cost you, you can’t rely on stable prices for your goods or services. So everyone is standing pat. I used to eat out all the time. Now I almost never do, not even fast food. That has to be hurting the restaurant biz. And I also haven’t bought anything “new” in 2 years, except for a shirt and tie for the rare job interview.
