The fascination with the big, pioneering frontier has long been a staple element in American culture. In the past this produced an unquenchable thirst for adventure and discovery that led to one of the most technically innovative civilizations the world had ever seen (for where there is a will, there is a way).

Unfortunately, beginning with at least the Baby Boomers, the thirst for largeness expressed itself in terms of the consumption rather than the production of largess. What was once the strength of American society has become cancerous and we must destroy this cancer.

But we do so at the risk of destroying ourselves... or at the very least of changing to the point of unrecognizability.

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus...

Crap.
Stop blaming the two-thirds of the population that’s sane.
We have been fighting this stuff since FDR, for God’s sake!
We have known SSI was insolvent since LBJ raided it back in the 60’s.
Term Limits??—Lefties on the courts killed the one thing that would have helped.
Barry’s boys have just speeded things up—by a factor of TEN (or more).

President Obama walked jauntily to the White House briefing room to embrace it as “broadly consistent with what we’ve been working on here in the White House.”

"In all likelihood, the debt ceiling will be significantly raised (good for Obama), with promises of big “deficit reductions” (red meat for the GOP)."

Don't get your hopes up to high on that last part. It'll never happen.

MUST READ? Well, I made it this far

conveniently forgetting that George W. Bush (who inherited a budget surplus)

Bush was bad on the budget, but the surplus is a blatant lie.

There might be another way of looking at Bush 43 spending. Bring back Bush. http://media.townhall.com/townhall/Medved/Medved_Show/chartlarge.gif

Kabuki Dictionary (ka-boo-key) pronunciation n. A type of popular Japanese Washington drama, evolved from the older No theater, in which elaborately costumed performers . . . use stylized movements, dances, and songs in order to enact tragedies and comedies.
