For many, photographs from the World War II have only been seen in grainy black and white.

But now, new colour images have emerged that show the full horror of the destruction inflicted by Nazi bombings across London.

The powerful images were released to mark the 70th anniversary of the launch of Winston Churchill's 'V for Victory' campaign on July 19, 1941.

I especially liked the 4th one with the bus in the crater next to a sign reading “Buses stop here” :)

And now, 70 years later, the Brits are surrendering to Islam without a murmur. They fought bravely then, and their grandchildren are handing it over.

They appear to be Kodacolor prints. Much more dramatic coloring than current technology. Does anyone have any definitive info on that question?

Perhaps not totally relevent, but Michael Savage made a statement the other day reminding listeners that although we usually see only drab black and white photos of that era, people tend to forget that it was a technicolor day complete with blue skies and singing birds while the crematoria belched out smoke behind the wire.

Amazing pictures. The color makes the damage seem even more devastating than seeing it in B/W. I’ve always been fascinated by the resiliency of the British people during that time, and have watched in sadness, the decline of that culture. It seems the war just beat them down, giving what they had to endure, beginning in 1940. They lost a lot of their faith in God and man, allowing them to slide, morally, and culturally, over the last 60 years.

One regretful thing is there are many more pictures shown of the devastation visited upon Nazi Germany than there are pictures like these showing that which was visited upon the English.
In alike manner, we see many, many more photos of the devastation delivered to Japan than we see of what they did to others.
I wish there were more discussions of the difference between life under “victorious” Japan and “victorious” Germany and the life under a victorious England and America.
A victorious Allies desired, assisted, and inspired both former enemies to become what they are today.

Reminds me of that song, “In Color”

Grandpa and grandson are looking at old B/W pictures.

Of course, the tag line is, “You should have seen it in color.”

The color looks a little off in a couple, probably due to age. The ones that look normal seem to have that kodachrome “pop” to them that you just don’t get with anything else. They look fantastic. Like looking out the window.

I think the only color film that produced images which hold up so well over the years would be Kodachrome. Someone must have kept these images in a cool, dark, dry place.

“Kodachrome”. Right. Sorry about the mis-nomer.
