Sen. Harkin: "Cult Fringe" Holding Up Debt Ceiling Increase
Real Clear Politics ^ | 07/20/11

Posted on 07/20/2011 12:23:31 PM PDT by MissesBush

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) calls Republicans "dead-beat debtors" among other things during a Democratic press conference on Wednesday morning.

"The debate and fight is not between Democrats and Republicans. It's between some Republicans and their sort of cult fringe as I refer to them out there," Harkin said.

"Democrats are willing to do whatever is necessary to raise the debt ceiling, not for future borrowing but to pay the debts that we racked up in the past. Which, mostly was racked up by a Republican House, a Republican Senate and a Republican President in the last 8 years. Yet, they're not willing to pay the bills," Harkin said.

Harkin will be signing copies of his Viet Nam autobiography, “Wings Over Hanoi,” which details how he went toe to toe with North Viet Migs and live to tell about it...

Those awful “cult fringers”, oh the horror. We need to bring back some of Harkin’s “mainstream” buddies in like Nicaraguan Sandinista Daniel Ortega, Grenada's ex dictator Maurice Bishop or Venezuela's Hugo Chavez. Harkin thinks those dudes rock.

“Cult fringe?” Meaning commies like Harkin?

How in hell a Bolshevik like that gets himself elected from a state like Iowa is one of America’s great mysteries.

Let us see who is the lunatic fringe and who doesn’t pay the bills they run up ...

Harkin has been in Washington since 1969...

In 1969, Harkin moved to Washington, D.C., and began work as an aide to Democratic Congressman Neal Smith

junior Senator from Iowa since 1985...

He previously served in the United States House of Representatives (1975–1985).

Harkin came out in favor of the Fairness Doctrine during an interview with Bill Press. (February 11, 2009)

Harkin has been influential in increasing research into alternative medicine. He was instrumental in the creation of the U.S. Office of Alternative Medicine in 1992, which later became the NCCAM. His influence and results, however, have been criticized.

Harkin supported President Barack Obama’s health reform legislation; he voted for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in December 2009, and he voted for the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.

He introduced the Americans with Disabilities Act into the Senate. Harkin delivered part of a speech in sign language so his deaf brother could understand

He has opposed most efforts to place legal restrictions on Roe v Wade, including voting against a ban on late term abortion.

As of 2003, Harkin received a 100 percent rating from NARAL, the pro-choice advocacy organization. He was very critical of the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, which places limits on taxpayer-funded abortions.

allow long-time illegal immigrants to gain citizenship with some restrictions, and increase the number of guest workers over and above those already present in the U.S. through a new “blue card” visa program

claiming that he had flown combat missions over North Vietnam, Harkin clarified that he had been stationed in Japan and sometimes flew recently repaired aircraft on test missions over Vietnam

Along with California Senator Barbara Boxer, Harkin is one of only two Senate Democrats to come out in favor of Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold’s resolution to censure President George W. Bush.

His wife Ruth joined a Washington lobbying firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, in 1983

In 2002, Mrs. Harkin became a director of ConocoPhillips

Their daughter Amy appeared on the NBC daytime reality series Starting Over from 2003 to 2004

“If you can make a visit to his office, that probably carries more weight than an email,”

I probably won't do that. But I will dig up this news story tonight and send out an email.

I know people that interact with both the Harkin and Grassley staffers. They speak of a very sharp contrast amongst the staffers and attitudes for each Senator's office.

Hey Tom.. just in case you hadn’t noticed, the “cult fringe” resides firmly and rather comfortably in your party. The GOP House passed CC&B last night, you old fool. You marxists GOT your precious tax when you instituted the mandate portion of Obamacare... after all, your party insisted it was a “tax”... or did you miss that one, too.

And finally, how about chiding your fellow dems about the inconsistence of voting against lifting the debt ceiling back in 2006... dems who include your One.

It seems to me that these communist democraps are rocketing farther and farther to the left, at light speed, every single day.
When they look back over their shoulder and see mainstream Americans, their individual perspective gives them a view that makes them think that we are fringe kooks but in fact THEY are the FRINGE KOOKS.

THE COMMUNIST PARTY (I quit calling it the democrat party after they passed obamacare) IS DESTROYING AMERICA AND THEY ACTUALLY THINK THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING GOOD. WE ARE IN DANGER AND NEED TO START ACTING LIKE WE ARE AT WAR.

I contacted Sen Harkin and corrected him on a couple of points. I am sure he won’t make the same mistakes again.

according to ‘treasurydirect.gov’, 4.5 trillion that the R’s racked up from 1994 thru 2006 is equaled to the amount that the D’s racked up in 1/3 the time, from 2006-2010.

Also told him that I was thrilled that he wants to raise the debt ceiling ‘not for future borrowing’ but to pay current debts. He and I agree on this - no more borrowing for the future, just pay the debt. I also informed him that we make a lot more every month than the debt costs, so we don’t really need to worry about default.

Knowledge is power, and I am sure he will do fine with correct info...

Tom Harkin, who the heck is that? I’ll tell you, a worthless liberal dunce from head to toe that has been braindead for years!!! Pubbies in the House!!! Do not give in. Let the Senate defeat your bill or, if somehow it passes the Senate, send it immediately to POTUS Obama and dare him to veto it!!! Call the POTUS Bluff!!!

Common tactic of Dems-—accuse others of doing what you are doing. Isn’t that an Alinsky tactic?

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) calls Republicans "dead-beat debtors" among other things during a Democratic press conference on Wednesday morning.

Okay Tommy boy, get off your hemorrhoid infested fat ass and show us YOUR plan that YOU have worked so hard on to save the country financially!

Or are YOU what you are calling those who are actually creating a vision for the future!

These people are so effin' worthless outside of campaigning it isn't funny!
