SALT LAKE CITY — A state Republican delegate behind the effort to repeal Utah's illegal immigration reform bill called drafters of the legislation "traitors" Wednesday.
At the same news conference, Brandon Beckham basically demanded the GOP-controlled Utah Legislature repeal HB116 by Sept. 30. The bill would establish a guest worker program for undocumented immigrants in 2013.
"Those who drafted this bill are traitors to Utah and they will be held accountable by voters in 2012," he said with Sen. Stephen Urquhart, R-St. George, and Rep. Chris Herrod, R-Provo, and others standing behind him in the Capitol rotunda. Both lawmakers favor a repeal.

This is going to be a full employment bill for law enforcement. Will they allow illegal aliens to be cops?

Now why would they do that? What possible reason is there for them to remain "out of sight of the public"?

Done with the direct help, lobbying, involvement and “encouragement” of the mormon church “leadership”.
They’ve made their position known quite clearly; “One thing is clear: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has abandoned its claims to neutrality on these bills.”
I am opposed to this plan as are many Utahns because this is a back door. Being Mormon, I am not a fan of the LDS Church’s current policy position. Many LDS here in Utah are not happy along with non LDS. This is not about “compassion.” Are we a nation of laws or a nation where anyone can come here, squat, work, protest, and get welfare and education all illegally. That is why this guest worker provision should be repealed IMO.

The church intervening and coercing legislators to pass the original legislation is a clear contravention of their established claims of following the law. They’ve crossed the line, so to speak.
But what are you all (Mormons) going to be able to do if the church has “special access” to your legislators and you don’t?
We are going to have to use the arena of public discourse to get our views out. Some legislators are Mormon and they aren’t on board either. I don’t view this as members vs the Church per say. I view this as religious organizations(and there are more than LDS ie the Salt Lake Diocese and others)and citizens.
We are talking policy here and not doctrine or faith. I think there are many people of faith of differing opinion than their religious organizations on immigration. One thing that the area religions are doing is they are engaging in the discourse civilly. They are not like the illegals and their activists taking to the street, getting the Mexican Consulate involved, etc.
In the end I want a guest worker program, but it has to be done with a very strict vetting process. There are immigrants we don’t want in our society. I love people from all walks of life, races, etc. But I believe that the breakdown in the rule of law cannot be arbitrarily applied.
Hispanics who advocate being able to slip in by telling us we are a bunch of jerks for not letting them in without an invitation, have too much power. Time to take our nation back from those who have hijacked it. We do that in a civil way, enforce the laws.
