80? If true, that is incredible and horrific.

I wonder what this does to Norway’s gun laws. They had been fairly permissive. Eighty people is traumatic enough that I could imagine it shifting public thinking on the matter.

You write: I wonder what this does to Norway’s gun laws. They had been fairly permissive.

Maybe you should bone up on something before you make a statement that makes it obvious you are clueless:

Ownership

To own a gun in Norway, one must document a use for the gun. By far, the most common grounds for civilian ownership are hunting and sports shooting, in that order. Other needs can include special guard duties or self defense, but the first is rare and the second is practically never accepted as a reason for gun ownership.

Ownership is regulated and responsibility for issuing a gun ownership license is given to the police authority in the applicant’s district.

Rifle and shotgun ownership permission can be given to “sober and responsible” persons 18 years or older. The applicant for the permission must document a need for the weapon.

For handguns, the lowest ownership age is 21 with no exceptions allowed. For inherited weapons, it is up to the local police chief to make a decision based on the individual facts of the case.

An applicant must have a clean police record in order to obtain an ownership license.

Yep, worked in England.
And Australia.

Haplaphobes rejoice in these tragedies.
Totalitarians and the liberal media exploit them for all they can, and they “Can” a lot!

The resulting draconian knee-jerk laws are irrational, but nearly irresistible to liberal politicians and the ignorant who just want the masters to “Do Something!” so that they will never have to take any responsibility for their own safety.

“Eighty people is traumatic enough that I could imagine it shifting public thinking on the matter.”

If they can learn from history, they will realize that they need to allow CCW. Had anyone been armed, that toll would have likely been far less.

But, they are Europeans, subjects in mentality, not citizens.

Those two Norwegians attacked by a Polar Bear last year were not allowed to have large caliber handguns. When a bear is dragging you out of your tent, a .454 revolver, or at least a .44 mag with Buffalo Bore +P+ loads, would have made a difference.

Alas, the Europeans will probably restrict guns, despite history.
