New dispute threatens debt limit negotiations (Rats still trying to manipulate the terms)

New disagreement erupted late on Saturday between congressional Democrats and Republicans over the timetable for increasing U.S. borrowing authority, possibly jeopardizing efforts to avert a default.

Democratic and Republican leaders escalated their fight despite instructions from President Barack Obama earlier to produce a budget plan by Monday that would clear the way for Congress to raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling by August 2.

Saying he was "deeply disappointed" by the lack of progress toward a deal to raise the credit limit built around deficit cuts, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said Republican "intransigence" was "pushing us to the brink of a default on the full faith and credit of the United States."

The latest flare-up centered around a Republican plan being proposed behind closed doors calling for two installments of debt limit increases and deficit reduction.

This is the time for FR and all right thinking Republicans, conservatives and independents to phone our Congress people encouraging them to keep on keeping on. Don't let them down. And go beyond that by writing letters to the editor, fill the airways by calling talk show hosts, emails, facebook, twitter, etc.

I'm a pretty old and don't know how do all that stuff, but you youngsters do and need to fill the space with kudos for the good guys.

All “flare-ups” will center around the Republican plans because they are the only ones to offer any plans.

instructions from President Barack Obama earlier to produce a budget plan by Monday

Alistair and Donna, the writers, obviously do not understand the workings of a Republic. Obama has no authority over Congress. He might ask, but that's about it.

Awwwwwwww, are the republicans closing the b’tids out? Now isn’t that a shame! After they had been shut out of ANY negotiation for going on five years now? Why that’s just terrible! TERRIBLE, I say! (snort!)

Harry/Barry twats...put your plan on the table and let’s look at it! OHHHHHH! You say you don’t have one??? Why NOT? You would think that in going on 2.5 YEARS, you might could scribble one down or something! NO? Then what are we paying you the big bucks for?

despite instructions from President Barack Obama

The Politico is reporting that Speaker Boehner told Obama, “As I read the Constitution, the Congress writes the laws and you get to decide what you want to sign."

You know where you can stick your "instructions", Barry.

How rich is that - the boy king barks an order and the Congress darn well better do something if it knows what is good for its continued existence!! Ha ha ha ha, this guy really really thinks he is the world ruler.

Don't you love someone like Stinky Harry using the terms
“full faith and credit of the US government”?

When only 9% of the American public has any faith in the performance of the US Congress, why should the rest of the world?

Ask GM bondholders about the “full faith and credit of the US government”.

Ask the US government to allow an audit of the assets of the Social Security “trust fund” to show its worthiness of the American public’s “full faith”.

"Democratic and Republican leaders escalated their fight despite instructions from President Barack Obama..."

So... Reuters think that House GOP members take their "instructions" from B. Hussein Obama?

Not in your freakin' lifetime!

The only time you will hear from Cornyn is when he wants money. Otherwise, sit down and shut up.

A Republican leadership aide said lawmakers are working on a plan for $3 trillion to $4 trillion in savings over 10 years,

Any cutting that is spread out over 10 years is a canard and WILL NOT HAPPEN. We’ve been down this road before.

Let’s see some serious, detailed, makes ya wanna cry it hurts so much, spending cuts for this year and next. Then we’ll know the Repubbies are serious. Anything else is just a bunch of bullsh1t and not worth our time.

Of course it won’t happen but this is where the GOP could still gain with the public and take 2012 then make the changes for real.
