Terrorist proclaimed himself 'Darwinian,' not 'Christian'

Terrorist proclaimed himself 'Darwinian,' not 'Christian' Norwegian's manifesto shows Breivik not religious, having no personal faith

WASHINGTON – A review of Anders Behring Breivik's 1,500-page manifesto shows the media's quick characterization of the Norwegian terrorist as a "Christian" may be as incorrect as it was to call Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh one.

Breivik was arrested over the weekend, charged with a pair of brutal attacks in and near Oslo, Norway, including a bombing in the capital city that killed 7 and a shooting spree at a youth political retreat on the island of Utoya that killed more than 80 victims.

Piecing together Breivik's various posts on the Internet, many media reports have characterized the terrorist – who says he was upset over the multiculturalist policies stemming from Norway's Labour Party – as a "right-wing, Christian fundamentalist."

Yet, while McVeigh rejected God altogether, Breivik writes in his manifesto that he is not religious, has doubts about God's existence, does not pray, but does assert the primacy of Europe's "Christian culture" as well as his own pagan Nordic culture.

Breivik instead hails Charles Darwin, whose evolutionary theories stand in contrast to the claims of the Bible, and affirms: "As for the Church and science, it is essential that science takes an undisputed precedence over biblical teachings. Europe has always been the cradle of science, and it must always continue to be that way. Regarding my personal relationship with God, I guess I'm not an excessively religious man. I am first and foremost a man of logic. However, I am a supporter of a monocultural Christian Europe."

The terrorist also candidly admits he finds no support within either the Catholic or Protestant churches for his violent ideas.

But I'm glad ken21 is here on FR.

I am as well. I am reasonably sure HG has no problem with ken21 posting on FR.

However, when someone comes into an employee meeting with their zipper down, you usually ask them to zip up, so as not to embarrass themselves or others.

This is really no different.

Didn’t he rent it from an incarcerated marijuana farmer?

If so, that’s a relationship worth looking into.

Yes. He rented the farm from a husband/wife and the husband was going to prison for 2 1/2 years. I believe the husband had been caught growing marijuana.

I agree about looking into the relationship. He only paid $1250 euros per month to rent the farm that included buildings and about 40 acres. Seemed very cheap.

I do editing as part of my job, so I appreciate correct punctuation. Good writing is an important skill that doesn’t seem to be taught well, if at all, these days. That concerns me.

However, in a forum like this, it doesn’t seem to me to be that critical. Your writing was clear and concise.

If the point is to impress lurkers and liberals, or to prove that Freepers are well educated and in full possession of their mental faculties, that probably isn’t going to happen.

The “punctuation police” are a little overboard, IMHO.

My advice is - pitch right in and just ignore ‘em.

Blessings,

rude.

You sound like a liberal or democrat who objects to simple honesty. I did not say you were stupid or uneducated, and even gave other options for why you are not using proper capitalization.

hg lost his posting privileges recently.

Do you know why?

how do you explain your handle?

So, that is your defense? When you object to what someone says, you try to find something about their 'handle' to use as a weapon against them? Why does someone's username have to mean anything? What does yours mean?

in the future please don’t comment to me.

Unfortunately, this is an open public forum, and we are free to respond to whomever we want. You don't have to reply.

You could simply eliminate all the contention if you just took a few seconds to explain WHY you don't use capitalization. You may have a very logical reason.

If you don't bother explaining, then it would seem to me you are one of those people who just can't take a little criticism or advice without blowing up (meaning you are immature, which would correspond with the lack of capitalization).

So, why don't you use proper capitalization?

thanks.

You are welcome. You are welcome on FR. No one (even HG) is saying you are not welcome here. He is just asking you to zip up your pants.

Both my grandfathers were Masons, one an atheist/agnostic, one a devout Baptist.

I suppose the Masons have been an effective secret society, in finance and in politics, for those who have wished to make that use of it. My grandfathers just wanted a night out with the guys, away from their wives.

OTOH many of the Founding Fathers of this country were Masons.

"It is not eloquence that is at question."

That was sarcasm. Being a blogpimp cop apparently isn't satisfying enough so attacking someone who expresses his opinion yet doesn't do so in perfect English structure is fair game. It provided him with yet another opportunity to be a bully.

"It is GRADE SCHOOL educational concepts."

Ken21 may or may not be a young kid texting or using internet shortcuts - he might just be a member of our greatest generation who never graduated high school. The "21" in Ken21 might refer to his year of birth, not his age.

My paternal grandmother could not read or write but she could express her opinions verbally very well. What if he is an 90 year old WWII veteran with a 6th grade education just trying to express his opinions here with his fellow conservatives? If I were and received such an undeserved and unnecessary moronic comment as he did, I'd be wondering if I had made the right choice in trusting my fellow FReepers with my opinions.

And, if he is just a young kid, he is probably a victim of years of the liberal degradation of our educational system which we are struggling to turn around. He might be an extremely intelligent individual but thanks to our public education system he has been robbed of the essential knowledge he needs to communicate.

In either event, there's absolutely no reason to bash him over something as minor as capitalization. It's nothing but a smart-ass remark from someone who believes he is superior to everyone else on this board.

“His references to Christianity in his writings are cultural, and it has not been shown that he belongs to any actual Christian religious organization or that he holds any Christian religious beliefs.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Behring_Breiv...

I found it interesting that wiki had the above on their site. - he was also a member of a “progressive” movement apparently. He quoted Kant, John Stuart Mill and a few others though I didn’t see Darwin’ name until now.

Coincidental that this happened at a time when the UN (and the obamunist’s) are working on confiscating guns.

Sure, HG was a little gruff. But he was trying to make a point, and a very good one.

Ken21 may or may not be a young kid texting or using internet shortcuts - he might just be a member of our greatest generation who never graduated high school. The "21" in Ken21 might refer to his year of birth, not his age.

All possibly true. I even offered options as to why he didn't bother capitalizing properly. I have even asked him WHY. Is it asking too much to ask someone WHY they don't bother to capitalize? It does interfere with communication, and we have nothing else but what is written in a post to communicate by.

What if he is an 90 year old WWII veteran with a 6th grade education just trying to express his opinions here with his fellow conservatives?

As I stated before, I have run into posters who seem to have a problem with spelling, grammar, or capitalization, and I try to be upfront and just ask them why. Usually there is a very simple answer.

In either event, there's absolutely no reason to bash him over something as minor as capitalization. It's nothing but a smart-ass remark from someone who believes he is superior to everyone else on this board.

If you think what HG did in his original post was 'bashing', then you must have a very thin skin. HG is known for being blunt.

Perhaps ken21 could explain why he doesn't capitalize. Maybe he is just learning to type. I correct people on their spelling and grammar all the time, mostly in the hope that they will learn from it.

Does that mean that I think I'm superior to everyone else?
