Vermont Senator Wants Obama to Face Primary Challenger
FoxNews.com ^ | July 24, 2011

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said in a radio interview that he's thinking about trying to encourage somebody to run against President Obama in a primary election, claiming the president has drifted toward Republican positions because "no one will stand up to him."

Republicans hardly feel that Obama is on their side. House Speaker John Boehner, after splitting off from White House-led debt talks, said Sunday that they are almost "from two different planets."

But Sanders, an Independent, said Friday that the president is not living up to his campaign commitments on issues like Social Security -- reflecting a concern among some Democrats that Obama is willing to negotiate away changes to entitlements to appease Republicans.

"There are a lot of smart honest, progressive people who I think can be good presidents," he said. "This is an issue ... we are beginning to talk about a little bit."

Bernie's theory must be that a primary challenge from the left might fool a few folks into believing 0bama could be even more of a commie than he is.

Bernie sanders is an avowed socialist. He admits it. No mention of this fact in any of the articles I’ve read. He is not an independent.

I suspect that Sanders is simply trying to make Obama seem ‘moderate’ so that he can snow-over the Republicans again.

More shades of LBJ when the party leadership told him in no uncertain terms he wasn’t going to win so don’t even try to run again.

Yep, and Sanders is dissapointed because Obama is not liberal enough.

I would like to think that Obama could have a primary fight on his hands, but, don’t think it will happen. The most likely outcome would be like what happened in 1980, with Ted Kennedy challenging Jimmy Carter. The result was a split party and a landslide loss to Reagan. Most Democrats realize that Obama’s their best chance to hold the White House.

Though a primary spectacle on the Democrat side would be fun to watch play out.

A primary challenger for Obama? I nominate Mitt Romney.

"from two different planets."

Bernie Sanders is from Bizarro World, so that is something like another universe.

Actually, even a short trip to the fetid pool known as DU will tell you that the Progressive Left is furious with Obama for "selling out".

For them any cut to the "big three" (SS, Medicare, Medicaid) is a treasonous act worthy of trial and execution.

There's not even any "progressive" who meets any one of those criteria, including being progressive in any meaningful sense.

It would be wonderful if Vermont and Massachusetts would secede and become their own little Commie country. I can dream, can’t I?

Bingo! This is part of a well choreographed script to make Obama seem reasonable in the current spending debate.

I would be happy enough just to see them secede.

It’s not that Barry isn’t liberal enough. More like he’s just a weak, ineffectual empty suit. He’s never really had to work for a living, never had any experience running anything, well, other than his TelePrompTer driven mouth.

He’s swimming in the deep end, and he should be in the kiddie wading pool. You know, the kind you blow up, and fill with a garden hose so the two year olds can splash about.

Lo and behold, the empty suit, isn’t actually wearing one.

Vermont is a funny state. You know that, as a resident, you can buy a gun and carry it without a permit? And oddly enough, it has a fairly low crime rate.

Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.
