Why, one wonders, not save $5 trillion by proposing to spend that amount to cover the moon with yogurt and then cancelling the proposal?
-George Will, Washington Post, March 12, 2009
Claim 1: Winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will save $1 trillion.
Reality: The Reid plan relies on the inaccurate assumption that surge-level spending in Iraq and Afghanistan is scheduled to continue over the next decade. An honest budget cannot claim to save taxpayers dollars by cutting spending that was not requested and will not be spent. Senate Democrats are employing a budget gimmick that will not fool the credit markets and does not address the urgent need for Washington to get its fiscal house in order.
Claim 2: Paul Ryans budget also included this savings in its deficit reduction calculation.
Reality: False. The House-passed budget cuts $6.2 trillion in spending relative to President Obamas Fiscal Year 2012 budget request. This $6.2 trillion figure assumes ZERO savings from the global war on terror relative to the Presidents budget.

The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Krauthammer said tonight he heard there was $10 B savings in Reid’s plan for not invading Normandy again. The funny part was that I couldn’t tell if he was kidding...
That's more like it. Although it's ten years out, I assume it's 620B per year. That's significant cuts now.
The left may root for gimmicks, many in the center won't recognize gimmicks, but S&P and Moody's will sniff them out.
Don't give them ideas. They'll claim it's to save NASA and the dairy industry.
The gimmicks are outrageous. Especially when they come from “our side”
That’s the Ryan budget that passed the House some months ago, not any of their new “plans”.
So I guess enslaving the children and the unborn with debt is ok if we moderate the debt??? Yes Any and All Debt passed on to those under the voting age is by definition “Involuntary Servitude”. Why is not the debate framed in those terms?? What would happen if we put an Electronic Debt Clock in every classroom in America showing every Child His or Her share starting in Kindergarten, Do you think they would demand CHANGE?? I do.
I say NO DEAL, NO MORE DEBT . CUT every Government Agency and Department that cannot be Fully Funded with Current Receipts, including All PENSIONS. It is Not Their Money , it is Ours. Not another Dime in Debt, why should I be forced to pay for a Whole Generation before me without my consent at the time the Law was passed? Is that not Involuntary Servitude??
Yes - Didn't Senate already vote it down? how can we get it back out there?
With all the publicity seems Dems may be more apt to take it - hell we just need a few.
the good news: when you click on the link, it says the server is too busy. perhaps Americans want to read what Paul Ryan has to say.
the bad news?? maybe there is mayhem afoot.
You should have posted the whole list

I’m curious:
Does anyone know what the baseline budget is that these supposed cuts are referenced to? Obama’s rejected 2012 budget? Paul Ryan’s? There is no Dem budget so what are we referencing to?
And another point:
If we are going to make cuts to reduce the 10 year deficit total by $4000 billion then you would expect that we would be cutting $400 billion at least in 2012 and a similar cut in 2013. The budgets for those years are under the control of this Congress. That can’t be said for the following 8 years. I have seen no such numbers coming out of the House (and don’t expect to).
This is all smoke and mirrors.
