Why the Democratic Party is Doomed
Forbes.com ^ | 07/18/11 | Richard Miniter

The Democratic Party, as we have known it for the past 70 years, is now in its last days.

Yes, the House Republicans may raise the debt ceiling for a mix of spending cuts and revenue raisers. Yes, Barack Obama may win the 2012 presidential contest. Yes, bureaucrats and judges will continue to impose new and costly regulations on the economy.

But it doesn’t matter. The long-term trends are almost all bad news for the left wing of the party.

This week’s fight over raising the federal debt limit exposes a key weakness in the warfare-welfare state that has bestowed power onto the Democratic Party: Without an ever-growing share of the economy, it dies. Every vital element of the Democrats’ coalition — unions, government workers, government contractors, “entitlement” consumers — requires constant increases in payments, grants and consulting contracts. Without those payments, they don’t sign checks to re-elect Democrats.

Like it or not, Obama is not the new FDR, but the new Gorbachev: a man forced to preside over the demise of a political system he desperately wants to save.

Democrat champions in the punditocracy confidently predict that the future of the world’s oldest political party is bright. But in fact, the coalition that is the modern Democratic Party is doomed. Every pillar upholding its heavy roof is crumbling.

Didn’t Richard Daley write an article in one of Washington’s newspapers about this? Something about he would not be to happy if the Democratic party went into a self destruct mode.

Leftists have pushed tribalist doctrines of “multi-culturalism” on minorities in the name of diversity.

Each tribes doctrines have some common threads beyond “vote democrat and hate and scapegoat whitey.” These common threads promise a meltdown of the Democrat party.

Have race pride!

That means be a racial supremist. Racists alawys shun and hate anyone who is not of their race. That means the brown racists who consider themselves superior will hate the black racists who consider themselves a superior race.

Look out for your own kind. Remember where you came from!

That means the racial supremists of diversity must ignore equal opportunity and equality before the law and perfer one another over everyone outside the race tribe. This means blacks will resent the success of Hispanics and Hispanics, as the largest majority will have the power lock out the inferior blacks. They all will resent the white queers.

The Left’s race tribes can’t be controlled for the party’s power, ultimately. You raise children in a culture of racism with the spit fire agression of tribalism, and you raise kids who have enemies outside their minority tribe.

There is no doubt that the welfare state is already Balkanizing us along class, race, ethnic, and cultural lines. There is a growing wealth gap between whites/Asians and blacks/Hispanics. We are taking on the profile of a third world country with a permanent underclass and declining middle class and an the wealthy. The result will be more gated communities, increased crime, and the poor fighting among themselves for government handouts and jobs.

Since 1965 our immigration polices have changed rapidly the demographics of this country. The U.S. adds one international migrant (net) every 36 seconds. Immigrants account for one in 8 U.S. residents, the highest level in more than 80 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13. In a decade, it will be one in 7, the highest it has been in our history. And by 2050, one in 5 residents of the U.S. will be foreign-born.

Currently, 1.6 million legal and illegal immigrants settle in the country each year; 350,000 immigrants leave each year, resulting in a net immigration of 1.25 million. Since 1970, the U.S. population has increased from 203 million to 310 million, i.e., over 100 million. In the next 40 years, the population will increase by 130 million to 440 million. Three-quarters of the increase in our population since 1970 and the projected increase will be the result of immigration. The U.S., the world’s third most populous nation, has the highest annual rate of population growth of any developed country in the world, i.e., 0.977 percent (2010 estimate), principally due to immigration.

87 percent of the 1.2 million legal immigrants entering annually are minorities as defined by the U.S. Government and almost all of the illegal aliens are minorities. By 2019 half of the children 18 and under in the U.S. will be classified as minorities and by 2039, half of the residents of this country will be minorities. In 1970, non-Hispanic whites comprised 89 percent of the population; today they are 66 percent; and by 2042, they will be 50 percent.

Yes, the chickens are coming home to roost. Read this sobering piece by Victor Davis Hanson--The Tragic View Returns The therapeutic society’s world view has become unsustainable.

But why are whites less and less of the majority? Uncontrolled illegal invasion, that’s why. And too much LEGAL immigration as far as that goes. It ends because the dynamics of the situation are bigger than congress, bigger than the fed, bigger even than the bo’s swollen head.

Read my post #45. We are no longer the same country demographically. Multiculturalism and diversity have torn the fabric of national unity and shared values. Regretfully, I don’t share your optimism about our ability to regain control over our country and defend our patrimony.

Yes, and who do we have to thank for that? Answer: the sorry assed Republicans like Boner, Cantor and McCarthy. The “It’s my turn” leadership like that old worthless fossil, John McLame!. The damned Tea Party folks in the Congress better not cave, or I am for throwing them out in 2012 along with the rest of the RATs.

The Democrats can't change the laws of fiscal reality. They won't be able to keep the goodies coming to the 47% who are the takers. The entitlement programs are unsustainable and so are the means-tested welfare programs. Once you kill the producers, the rest of society lacks the fiscal wherewithal to continue with the status quo. See what happened in Zimbabwe.

Who is John Galt?

I don’t know where you live, kabar.

If you live on the East or West Coast, or in a major metro area, I can understand your unease.

And frankly I would fear for your well-being.

My family and my home, or my home areas I should say, are in the Plains states and the Northern Rockies-—productive, lightly populated, highly skilled and community-oriented areas all.

I don’t want a collapse to come and good people like yourself to suffer. But I am where I want to be if it’s going to happen.

No, legal immigration is the major reason why the demographics of this country have changed so rapidly. We bring in 1.2 million LEGAL IMMIGRANTS A YEAR, more than twice as many who are estimated to come in here illegally. 87% of the legal immigrants are minorities, as defined by the USG. The 1965 Immigration Act: Anatomy of a Disaster

Here is a chart showing LEGAL IMMIGRATION numbers to the US.

Your points are very well taken, but....

- Who remains the ruler of Zimbabwe? Is that going to change soon?

- Has such a collapse helped or harmed the relatively few Caucasians who still live there? Do they face a better future for it?

Just wonderin’....

Which is actually far less per capita than anytime before Wilson.

The problem isn’t immigration but welfare. No welfare, you attract the people who want to work hard and make money.

In a decade, it will be one in 7, the highest it has been in our history. And by 2050, one in 5 residents of the U.S. will be foreign-born.

There are approximately 40 million foreign born in this country. Immigration is driving about 75% of our population growth. The numbers are enormous. By 2050 one in three residents of this country will be Hispanic. We will be adding 130 million to our population in the next 40 years. The question is whether we can assimilate such numbers. The answer appears to be no.

Bureau of the Census: An Older and More Diverse Nation by Midcentury

"The non-Hispanic, single-race white population is projected to be only slightly larger in 2050 (203.3 million) than in 2008 (199.8 million). In fact, this group is projected to lose population in the 2030s and 2040s and comprise 46 percent of the total population in 2050, down from 66 percent in 2008."

The problem isn’t immigration but welfare. No welfare, you attract the people who want to work hard and make money.

The latest data show 22.1 million immigrants holding jobs in the U.S. with an estimated 8 million being illegal aliens. By increasing the supply of labor between 1980 and 2000, immigration reduced the average annual earnings of native-born men by an estimated $1,700 or roughly 4 percent. Among natives without a high school education, who roughly correspond to the poorest tenth of the workforce, the estimated impact was even larger, reducing their wages by 7.4 percent. The reduction in earnings occurs regardless of whether the immigrants are legal or illegal, permanent or temporary. It is the presence of additional workers that reduces wages, not their legal status.

The Bureau of Labor statistics for June 2011 show a national unemployment rate of 9.2 percent, including 16.2 percent for blacks and 11.6 percent for Hispanics. 23 million Americans are seeking full-time employment. Despite the economic downturn, the U.S. continues to bring in 125,000 new, legal foreign workers a month. This includes new permanent residents (Green Cards) and long-term temporary visas and others who are authorized to take a job. This makes no sense.

Milton Friedman said, “You cannot simultaneously have free immigration and a welfare state.” We have both.

Who remains the ruler of Zimbabwe? Is that going to change soon?

Presiding over a dung heap is not a victory for those holding power or those who support them. They have won a Pyrrhic victory. And yes it could change rapidly depending upon how severe conditions become. Who ever thought something like the Arab Awakening would happen with such rapidity and extensiveness.

Has such a collapse helped or harmed the relatively few Caucasians who still live there? Do they face a better future for it?

Everyone in the country shares the same bleak future. Those that can leave will leave. Those who thought they were achieving power now realize that are presiding over a dung heap with a declining standard of living and no hope for the future.

I am thankful that I can bail out if I have to. The decline of this nation is a loss not only to its people and the vision of our Founders, it is a loss to the world and liberty. The Democrats and the rabble who support them can live off the nation's declining wealth looting and stealing and taxing everything they can, but eventually they will be left with nothing. The Democrats will be riding a tiger and trying to figure how they are going to get off.

You’re just waaay more optimistic than I am. I see ‘Pubbies chafing under Tea Party pressure, and trying to put up a fight.

And I have heard “Democrat party is dead” and “Republican party is dead” repeatedly. It hasn’t been true so far.

Thanx for the link - I hadn't yet seen the article.

It appears many who held the misguided belief that the USA was somehow so special, so, shall we say 'exceptional, that we could ignore, no flaunt, reality, are now coming to the same conclusion that this party is nearing its tragic end.

What comes next is anyone's guess, but if history is any guide, the boil is going to be lanced.

50 million abortions will do that to you. Imagine an America with 50 million children that would now be hitting their 40’s, not to mention their own children too. You’re looking at a deficit of close to 100 million Americans.

Why is America having problems, Abortion.

“Milton Friedman said, “You cannot simultaneously have free immigration and a welfare state.” We have both.”

So why keep welfare? Lets go back to what worked, no welfare.

Yeah and if pigs had wings, they could fly. And we would have 410 million people instead of 310 million. And blacks use abortion more than any other group. Instead of having 40 million blacks, we would have 80 million.

We don't have a population problem. We are the third largest nation in the world and will continue to be for a long, long time. Only China and India will stay ahead of us in terms of numbers. Having more people does not mean you become more prosperous. More people need more energy, roads, water, sewage treatment plants, hospitals, schools, jobs, etc. We have 25 million Americans looking for full time employment. Over 14 million need jobs. More people also mean bigger government.

So why keep welfare? Lets go back to what worked, no welfare.

LOL. Do you have a pocket full of fairy dust to make that happen? By 2030 one if five residents of this countgry will be 65 or older. Right now, one third of the 54 million people on SS have it as their only source of income and for two thirds of the recipients it constitutes more than half of their retirement income. And studies show that the majority of Americans are woefully prepared for retirement. Savings rates are extremely low.
