Watching our system deal with the debt ceiling crisis a wholly self-inflicted crisis, which may nonetheless have disastrous consequences its increasingly obvious that what were looking at is the destructive influence of a cult that has really poisoned our political system.
And no, I dont mean the fanaticism of the right. Well, OK, that too. But my feeling about those people is that they are what they are; you might as well denounce wolves for being carnivores. Crazy is what they do and what they are.
No, the cult that I see as reflecting a true moral failure is the cult of balance, of centrism.
Think about whats happening right now. We have a crisis in which the right is making insane demands, while the president and Democrats in Congress are bending over backward to be accommodating offering plans that are all spending cuts and no taxes, plans that are far to the right of public opinion.
So what do most news reports say? They portray it as a situation in which both sides are equally partisan, equally intransigent because news reports always do that. And we have influential pundits calling out for a new centrist party, a new centrist president, to get us away from the evils of partisanship.
The reality, of course, is that we already have a centrist president actually a moderate conservative president. Once again, health reform his only major change to government was modeled on Republican plans, indeed plans coming from the Heritage Foundation. And everything else including the wrongheaded emphasis on austerity in the face of high unemployment is according to the conservative playbook.

But on a deeper note, how can we as a country susvive when lunatics like Krugman try to persuade the sane that Obama is a conservative who is right for the country?
:-)
I will listen to communist agenda democrats and try to not laugh at them (out loud).
When you laugh they get mad and stop babbling. Then the entertainment is over.
.
For a while, I was reading him just to see how he'd embarrass himself with this week's patent absurdity.
But now, it's just sad and more than a little pathetic.
But not that I'm that sorry for the guy. Paul deserves all the derision heaped his way.
This guy is bat$hit crazy.
Obama is now claiming to be conservative? Obama is a Saul Alinsky basd ideologue. Indeed Obama is the Ideologue of The United States ( IOTUS), and has not one iota of the right stuff to be in office.Historians have accurately classified Obama as a nationalist socialist, yes a liberal fascist.
Read it here:( NO conservative is IOTUS.)

Lies. All lies and prevarication.
Yes, this would be funny, if there weren't a number of communist progressives, such as Krugman, who actually believe this insanity. Does someone who teaches SAUL-ALINSKYism...instead of actual constitutionalism in the class he was given by political pressure in Chicago...since when is that "moderate" even, it certainly is the antithesis of 'conserverative'. And then let's review just a few tidbits: $5 trillion in deficit spending, and 300 czars, diversion of billions illegally to his political croneys, stealing $20 billion from his biggest foreign supporter, British Petroleum, and appointing his zero-tax GE Chairman Jeffrey Immelt to be the Jobs Czar (also one of his biggest supporters outside of Goldman Sachs) who then tells small business to hire, 'or else' and then he sends yet another major GE factory to the Chi-Coms just today...to further his company's Federal tax-exempt status.
So 'conservative'...roooight.
I agree with you that it is doubtful we can survive with such monstrously insane freaks running the MSM.
He is totally insane, isn’t he.
Yes, that is obviously his plan.
Well, if the left is insane and the cult of balance, of centrism is a failure, then the right is what is needed to work.
Sure thing and I'm a flying fish who happens to have a computer. (eye roll)
Looks like the NYT has its own Andrew Sullivan now, baying about evil rightwingers and calling Obama a conservative. Poor thing, he`ll be selling pencils on the sidewalk soon.
This guy’s brain is in overtime just to keep him breathing.
He should avoid making up horse dung articles.
My Dad has had a small stroke and consequently he cannot see well into the left side of his normal vision range. I postulate that Mr Krugman has had a similar stroke only his malady effects everything that he considers to be ‘right’. Consequently, the normal left is right to him, the strong left is center and only he and God know what he considers to be the ‘far’ left (so far as I know he has never referred or identified anything as far-left.)
He said:
“Think about whats happening right now. We have a crisis in which the right is making insane demands, while the president and Democrats in Congress are bending over backward to be accommodating offering plans that are all spending cuts and no taxes, plans that are far to the right of public opinion.”
ANYONE who has actually addressed the details of what the Democrats have offered know that to be a lie. Reductions or elimination of any current tax deductions or incentives, tax increases in affect, are sold as “no taxes”, while mere plans to spend less in the future, without actually legislating the actual cuts now, or reductions that are already known to going to occur anyway are presented as “spending cuts”.
Everyone in Washington D.C. knows that any “spending cut” not actually legislated now, in and for the current Fiscal year, is a never-to-be-enacted spending cut that itself is planned to be cut by the same authors in the next Congress.
Krugman added:
“The reality, of course, is that we already have a centrist president actually a moderate conservative president. Once again, health reform his only major change to government was modeled on Republican plans, indeed plans coming from the Heritage Foundation.”
When in fact, no matter what feature had the appearance (insurance exchanges) of any ideas from the Heritage Foundation, the fact is that Obamacare as whole was excoriated by the Heritage Foundation. See their own documentation on the side effects of Obamacare, such as: Job Losses, Higher Insurance Premiums, Higher Costs, Higher Taxes, Medicare Cuts, Expansion of Medicaid, Losing the Health Care Plan You Like, Special Back Room Deals [all the "exemptions"], Small Business Penalties, Future Government Rationing, Loss of State Authority, Higher Debt, Individual Mandates and Taxes - just to name some of them.

In any of that is their room for even a "centrist"? No. Krugman is just full of bull crap.
and you didn’t even mention all the other “conservative” things that Obama has done like force open homosexuals, lesbians, transgenders and other circus freaks on the military. He also ordered the Justice Department to not defend DOMA which is cleary a violation of his duties as POTUS. Yeah, it sure is great having a “Conservative” for president.
