This is substantial improvement.

Remember, this is only tranche 1. This not not FY2012. This is to extend at most to Q2 FY2012, about February. Additional cuts kick in then, or the debt ceiling is re-imposed.

This is a surprising increase in FY2012 cuts. It will without question reduce FY2012 GDP and increase unemployment, but that’s the price of getting real cuts.

Now the buzz word required to fight the battle in the polls is how Boehner has COMPROMISED with Democrats, even as this plan cuts MORE than the original.

NEVER EVER FORGET. This battle is going to be won at the polls. Just as the 1990s government shutdown was won by Clinton because Gingrich did not fight the battle in front of the camera, the way Boehner is doing.

So the time has now come to talk about how gentle and gradual these cuts are and how they are THE ONLY REAL COMPROMISE.

people will flame me but i agree with you....if they try and cut $1tillion over the next two years it never passes and they look unreasonable....

this is a reasonable plan and ayatollah obama will NEVER sign it- hence the hammer falls on his head- constantly if the GOP constantly hammers him...

This plan does very little to address the long-term debt problem, and (if passed into law) when our AAA credit rating gets downgraded in short order, the administration and the MSM will be clear to place all of the blame upon the "faulty Boehner bill"...

With all due and sincere respect, we are at the edge of the insolvency cliff. The real debt far exceeds $14T, and is likely closer to $80T. Boehner’s plan is like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. I find it difficult to accept the idea of a compromise when dealing with matters of national insolvency.

I agree.

First:
We have to get to the election and get those Independents to see Boehner ‘compromised’. We WILL lose the Independents
IF WE REFUSE to at least appear reasonable now.

second:
Any cuts are directly tied to the Debt limit. No passing of the cuts, no raising of the debt limit.that is written into this law.

third:
More cuts kick in and if they aren’t ‘real” we go back to the Debt Ceiling.

Fourth:
It averts a Bond meltdown and interest raising because the Bond Market sees we are going in the right DIRECTION on CUTS. THE MARKETS don’t care about the Debt ceiling, they care about our actual Debt.

Fifth:
We put Obama in a re-run of this fiasco BEFORE the election!

Now, if those on Freep who want to scream about “to hell with this, just let it go if we can’t get the kind of cuts we want”..to them, I will say Congratulations when Obama wins in 2012!

We can’t do it with just the House... nonetheless, I’m extremely proud of what they have accomplished, and know in my heart that come January 2013, there will be a lot more done. It seems a long time off, and a lot of $$ will be wasted between now and then, but I think we’ve done an excellent job bringing everything to this point. It’s time to get what we can and plan to do it again when we have greater strength in numbers.

I agree, and think we should get some cuts in now. We still only have the House, and the Senate is not going to take anything drastic. As much as I would like to cut 1 trillion this year, it wont happen. And if the “Tea Party” freshmen refuse to vote for a bill with cuts in it that will pass the Senate because it is not perfect, then we deserve a bigger government.

I agree with Owen that this gets us out of the immediate crisis.

We need to pass it.

HOWEVER, we MUST also cut $4 TRILLION total to avoid a credit downgrade. As long as we get a promise by the Dems to do that ASAP, this is fine.

But, we need substantial cuts.

I have my hopes for CCB to move forward, but it’s not realistic despite the fact it’s the only plan now that fixes EVERYTHING.
