.ST. PETERSBURG, Fla (Reuters) - Authorities on Wednesday captured a man in Colorado who escaped nearly 32 years ago from the Florida prison where he was serving a life sentence for murder.

Frederick Barrett, 60, slipped away from the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford during a nighttime power outage on August 17, 1979.

U.S. Marshals Service officers, dressed as U.S. Forest Service firefighters, arrested Barrett early on Wednesday at his cabin in Montrose County, Colorado. He had been living in the remote, mountainous area under the name Neil Meltzer, Florida officials said.

Tracking the SOB down after 32 years? Damn, that’s nice work.

Looks like he could get an additional 30 years added to his sentence for fugliness. Gawd, is Helen Thomas his mother?

I think a more appropriate mugshot would have made use of backlighting. Or a paper bag.

Check on this comment at the website-—

“””They didn’t track him to Colorado.
There was a large sting operation on drugs and he got caught up in it...then was identified and arrested for escape. How do I know? I live 10 miles from where he was caught. Another lie from Officials trying to make you feel they are doing a ‘good’ job!”””

He should have gotten the death penalty, he killed a stranger who gave him a ride in cold blood.

I’m suprised he was able to elude the authorities for such a long time. Montrose County, Colorado, isn’t the most densely populated area. Perhaps that is just where he ended up after a long journey. If I were on the run from Florida I’d hi-tail it to a major metropolis outside the state. It is easier to hide among many people than among few.

I don’t know Kenny, I may have done the same thing if a stranger tried to give me a ride in cold blood. ;)

Dead murderers neither escape, nor get paroled.
