The Fast & Furious e-mail; White House denies connection
Seattle Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 28 July, 2011 | Dave Workman

Posted on 07/29/2011 6:14:06 AM PDT by marktwain

Tuesday’s startling revelation by a central figure in the Operation Fast & Furious investigation that he communicated with a longtime friend in the White House about the gun trafficking sting has opened up a new segment of the Congressional probe, bringing an administration denial that the contact had anything to do with the botched operation.

This bombshell came thanks to questions from a Northwest congressman on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The entire hearing is available on video in three segments, accessible here, on the committee’s website. This column discussed Newell's appearance yesterday.

The revelation first came during questioning of former Phoenix Special Agent in Charge William Newell by Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID), and was picked up by South Carolina’s Trey Gowdy, a former district attorney. It involved Newell’s recently-discovered e-mail to Dr. Kevin O’Reilly, director of North American Affairs on the National Security Council. That, say critics of the botched gunrunning sting, “puts this investigation into the White House.” You be the judge after watching the videos.

I watched one part and Meehan was creaming him. Agent in charge would say “The guns weren’t SUPPOSED to go to Mexico, that wasn’t part of the original stratedy.”

And then Meehan said that Newell had just said their first order was from a plaza boss in Mexico. Anway, the guy just ended up looking like a ridiculous liar, or an idiot. I say both.

Newell is the White House’s choice for patsy.

What did Obamao know and when did he know it?

“The guns weren’t SUPPOSED to go to Mexico, that wasn’t part of the original strategy.”

Original strategy doesn't mean anything. These investigations already have multiple sources inside Newell's group saying that they were ordered to let guns go. I would like to know what month of cop school this idiot missed where they discussed not losing control of contraband in controlled deliveries, especially guns.

This is a different e-mail but a very revealing one nonetheless.

Gunwalker: Smoking Gun Email?

An internal ATF email seems to support the assertion that Fast and Furious was a PR stunt for gun control.

PJM’s Bob Owens has long speculated that the primary reason for Operation Fast and Furious was to perpetuate the lie that 90 percent of illegal firearms in Mexico were from the United States.

Owens’ assertion was buoyed on Wednesday by internal ATF emails obtained by Townhall.com. One email reads:

"Can you see if these guns were all purchased from the same FfL and at one time. We are looking at anecdotal cases to support a demand letter on long gun multiple sales. Thanks Mark R. Chait Assistant Director Field Operations."

--------------------------------------------------------

It's time for a special prosecutor, subpoenas, a grand jury. If e-mails have been deleted computer forensics can determine that. That's a Federal Felony. Hard time. Mandatory minimums. You get your choice of accomodations; total isolation or a cell with one of the baddest Bubbas in incarceration. Since terrorism is clearly a direct result of these ops arrangements could be made for a seaside cage at Club Gitmo.

Timing is a tricky thing. Perhaps the professional politicians such as Issa have a better hand at it. Maybe closer to the 2012 election?

I can see how building any case like this with multiple perps is tricky for any prosecutor. You want to dig for info but not spook those you haven't got anything on yet through your inquiries. Holding some cards close to the vest must be necessary in some circumstances in order to leave the perps some hope so they won't run, make back room deals or destroy evidence.

Hopefully Issa, as well as Grassley, know enough to work this skillfully. I have some hope that they do from the way they have been methodically going about it. Also from the large number of agents who are whistleblowers. We have already seen some serious revelations from Melson, from documents made public and from Tuesday's testimony. Probable cause for more thorough digging is being made in spades.

The press will notice this at some point. At that time info won’t come dribbling out it will be a flood. Issa, Grassley and the alternative press will have vetted most of it so there won’t be so many dead ends and corrections to make as with stories that get hot press from the time they first break. The salient points will be nailed down and they will be many.

Then what did Dear Reader mean when he said he was working on gun control “under the radar”? I wish we had real reporters in the country who could read, think and ask questions.
