” I don’t spend a lot of time buying or reading political books. My favorite was Mark Levin’s (I have a signed copy). But I think I’ll buy Jim’s book. He’s MY senator (I’m in SC) and it seems like something I should have on my book shelf beside Mark’s book.”

Ditto

And isn't Congress required by law to enact a budget annually? Last time I checked the nation's been without one for over 800 days.

Yes, that same 31 USC describes an annual budget process.

My general point was just that rules don't mean anything to Congress. Not only doesn't the federal government prepare a budget, if/when it does, the budget fails to meet the requirements set.

Given how Congress, the president, and the Supreme Court walk all over the constitution, I don't believe a constitutional amendment would resolve the issue.

DeMint supported a plan that would have raised the debt ceiling $2.4 TRILLION dollars.

So, all this puffery on his behalf here this morning is downright silly.

I asked what DeMint has actually done to prove his conservative credentials. What has he done?

Gov. Palin, on the other hand has already demonstrated her conservative credentials. I’m open to DeMint. But give me a reason to consider him a genuine conservative.

The difference between those of us who support Palin is that we’re supporting someone who’s walked the walk.

Bots, on the other hand, shrilly glom on to someone for no apparent and tangible reason—other than a person’s sex or professed—but not demonstrated—beliefs.

My first pick for pres. is Palin. She’s walked the conservative walk in Alaska and has supported conservative candidates since then. I also believe she will govern IAW her conservative principles and what’s good for America (yours and my definition of good)—and not necessarily IAW what some political hack advisor whispers in her ear. Also, Palin has already endured and triumphed over the Marxist’s politics of personal destruction (PPD). The left can certainly make up stories about her, but there are no skeletons in her closet.

Second choice for pres. is Bachmann. I like her because I believe she is genuine conservative. I like that she—and other House Tea Partiers—told Boehner his RINO budget plan was a no go. That is acting IAW principle. She hasn’t been subjected to the full PPD yet. But so far all the demrats have come up with is her migraine headaches. Demrats may be holding their powder until it becomes clear who the conservative front runner will be. But we still have Palin if we need her.

For VP I like either Cain or West. The edge, for me, goes to West because I’m USA, Re’t.

If a conservative pres. and veep are rejected by the GOP then I’ll do write-ins. I will not vote for a RINO. Made that mistake with the Bushs’. Never again.

Yes, there are valid reasons for the government to borrow money. Providing the reasons are within their Constitutionally limited powers (A war being the only one that could really necessitate a large amount of debt.) But there are NO VALID REASONS for being TRILLIONS of dollars in debt.

And yes, this does leave us slightly open to new, complicated, larger taxes. (A bit doubtful considering the Rs control the House.) Which is why a great idea would be to combine this with a fair tax amendment. Eliminate all of these deductions, rules, end-arounds, etc. Everyone gets, say, a $10k deduction, $2k per dependent, and the rest gets a 15% tax. Note: numbers are pulled out of my, uh, imagination. You'd need a bit more study to come up with more applicable numbers

Of course, this would also include (whether via budget cuts or other legislation) eliminating a lot of expenses (waste) on foreign aid, redundant/useless govt agencies/organizations, social services, military, etc.

To expound upon your toddler story: This doesn't say he can't get the candy bar. This says if he wants the candy bar, he has to put the teddy bear back.

I’m talking about the people who merely did what they usually do on that day. They went to work.

I regret not having made that clear. My mistake. Thanks for correcting me.

One of my most vivid images is the firefighters going up the stairs while the building’s office workers went down. While I’m at it I also acknowledge the heroism of those office workers who rose to the challenge and did something extraordinary that day. Most of those stories are probably lost to us forever.

Those necessary acknowledgements aside, my point stands. There is a carelessness with language today that demeans the meaning of words like heroism and those who demonstrate it. Simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time does not a hero make.

If Mark Levin likes DeMint, you know he’s a solid conservative!
