Black Caucus urges Obama to use 14th Amendment debt fix (Compare to Emancipation Proclamation!)

The Democratic members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) urged President Obama on Saturday to sidestep Congress and hike the nation's $14.3 trillion debt limit on his own.

In a letter to the president, the lawmakers argue that he has "both the authority and a moral obligation" to invoke the Constitution's 14th Amendment "to avoid an economic catastrophe of historic proportions."

"We must not allow a political deadlock to cause the United States to default for the first time in our history," the CBC members wrote. "Now that Congress has borrowed money and incurred debt, we cannot – as a nation and under our Constitution – walk away."

The lawmakers join a growing chorus of Democrats – including Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (Md.) and Caucus Chairman John Larson (Conn.) – who have called on Obama to invoke the Constitution as a last resort to prevent a government default.

Supporters argue that the 14th Amendment – which says "the validity of the public debt … shall not be questioned" – empowers the president to act unilaterally.

Obama has all but ruled out that option.

"I have talked to my lawyers," he said at a town hall meeting last week. "They are not persuaded that that is a winning argument."

The CBC members disagree, arguing that it's his obligation "to do that which is necessary for the good of the country."

"Just as President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation at a time of emergency in our nation's history to free those who were enslaved during the Civil War, today you face a looming calamity that in some respects is just as grave," they wrote.

Only one CBC member – Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) – did not endorse the letter.

The Democratic members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) urged President Obama [to assume dictatorial powers].

That's what they really want him to do. They desperately don't want The First Black President to be a one-term President, unless that one term is for life.

The Chocolate Reich will destroy America just like the Third Reich destroyed Germany.

The state sponsored racism of Obama’s negro nazi party must be exposed and resisted.

Holder’s klan with a tan must be held accountable for their voter intimidation crimes.

You've got some zingers in there! "Chocolate Reich", "Negro Nazi Party", and "klan with a tan" -- I'll use them sometime, if you don't mind.

Here's something I find interesting: Obama and the Dems have been trying to unify government employees, using among other things, the SEIU. Moreover, minorities are over-represented in government according to surveys I've seen, albeit at the lower levels. However, as government employees, they are overpaid, and given our perverse affirmative action promotion policies, they will soon be well-represented in supervisory positions. We have given away the keys of government trying to atone for imagined errors of the past couple centuries.

I have heard of that kind of over representation happening in service industries as well. It’s in large cities with a very organized and militant minority presence.

The only reason Germany was overtaken by Nazis is because the sheeple were infected with normalcy bias, and they were too timid to speak out against the evils of state sponsored racism.

Some good people will look at you funny for using those terms, but they are 100% accurate.

WE need to get this country to wake up before it’s too late.

Do you think the hate crime laws use to silence preachers in Canada condemning homosexuality will be applied to the New Black Panthers and LaRaza in America?

“Let the Karma police drag the dust out of those old slave holder’s graves and put it in jail. As for me, never had a slave.”

Neither have I; however, social justice allows us for pay for mistakes of long dead people that just happen to have the same skin color as us. But that’s not racism because apparently you can’t be racist to white people.

“Doesn’t Section 5 of the 14th Amendment restate that Congress has to legislate the enforcement of the provisions of this amendment?”

Oops! You weren’t actually supposed to read that old, outdated piece of paper! s/c
