Wahhabism and Shia Islam are key threats to Malaysias security and should be kept under close watch to ensure they do not lead to extremism, a Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) official has said.

Zamihan stressed that, if left alone, Wahhabism and Shia Islam could sow the seeds of extremism as seen in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Indonesia and Chechnya.
He said certain parties were now actively promoting both teachings with financial assistance from foreign missions here.

Sharia banking is no less of a threat, in fact it makes possible the further financing of the Jihadist offensives of the violent side of Islam, and enhances the growth of the Islamic movement wherever it is present. Sharia finance is established in the US and Europe and is starting to grow.
Salafists are more fundamental than Wahabbists and Wahabbism came from Salafism. The Turkish Gulen movement, welcomed in this country via Gulen Charter Schools, is closely associated with the Islamist, Caliphate leaning Erdogan govt. The Gulen movement is ...Salafist.
