Why Is Cost of Illegal Immigration Ignored In Debt Ceiling Debate?
FoxNews ^ | July 18, 2011 | Bob Dane

While the debt ceiling debate rages and Congress is busy haggling over who should be taxed and what programs should be slashed, they’ve promised to consider all options except…one.

Lawmakers have chosen to forget that immigration is a discretionary social policy that by definition is designed to be adjusted to serve the nation’s broad national interest, particularly during difficult economic times. This discretionary policy is a powerful economic tool, but only if it is brought out and used.

No comprehensive financial fix can be complete without Congress demanding increased enforcement against illegal immigration and reducing legal immigration to sustainable levels.

Reforming immigration would tighten the labor market, open up jobs for legal U.S. residents, and reduce the overall fiscal strain that immigration imposes on health care, education and other social services.

Doing so is an urgent mandate and a legitimate, justified use of policy.

If not now, then when?

Here are four ways that Congress could get to work… now!

1. Increase Enforcement and Reduce Costs

2. Pass E-Verify and Create Jobs for Americans

3. Reduce Legal Immigration – Time Out

4. Immigration Policy Is Economic Policy

This article is a couple of weeks old, but extremely pertinent right now. It's THE issue that is NOT being discussed by anyone - the economic elephant in America's living room.

It is absolutely the economic elephant in the room. It is astonishing the amount of money that would be saved if illegals were out of this country. Especially in health care, education, social services, and the criminal justice system. Then there are the jobs that would open up...

Expand E-Verify for public assitance also. No E-Verify, no workee. No E-Verify, no welfare either.

They also never mention the cost of foreing aid. Between the illeagls and the foreign countries it seems we give an awful lot of Americans’ money to non-Americans. I guess that’s what happens when one is (p)resident.

Why would they do that when states are getting threatened by Washington for trying to do it on their own?

This is why the issue is being ignored.

Farmers Oppose G.O.P. Bill on Immigration [Farmers Say E-Verify System Will Cripple $390B Industry]]

There was earlier today another thread concerning dairyman in Wisconsin who claimed e-verify would destroy the dairy industry in that state. So, there are Republicans who say bluntly they will vote Democrat if the Republicans keep pushing the effort to enforce our immigration laws.

It’s all politics, my dear!

Because the issue is harmful to some of the GOP preferred candidates for president.

Why Is Cost of Illegal Immigration Ignored In Debt Ceiling Debate?

The debt ceiling debate has nothing to do with anything except the governments ability to spend more money.

The debates have nothing to do with cutting spending, no cuts are even proposed.

The debates have nothing to do with raising taxes, if the government can spend more money by borrowing, what's the difference.

The debates have nothing to do with a Balanced Budget Amendment, the President and Congress, both parties, already ignore any part of the Constitution they don't want to deal with and will continue to do so, amendment or not.

The entire charade is only about the desire of our "leaders" to spend more money, whether we have it or not. As long as he can spend more money, Obama is victorious, this is all he ever wanted.

An estimated 8 million illegal aliens hold jobs in the US. They also have 300,000 to 400,000 anchor babies each year who are American citizens and qualify for benefit like Medicaid, food stamps, etc. They populate our prisons and ERs. The costs are enormous much more than the conservative estimate of 113 billion a year.

And legal immigration is also another major driver of costs. . Immigrants account for one in 8 U.S. residents, the highest level in more than 80 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13. In a decade, it will be one in 7, the highest it has been in our history. And by 2050, one in 5 residents of the U.S. will be foreign-born.

The main reason illegal aliens are ignored in the debate is political correctness. It is not politically correct to talk about the costs to society of illegal aliens. The subject is only allowed to be discussed if someone is pushing amnesty for illegals. Otherwise, we have to be PC and pretend that this issue doesn’t exist.

WHY? Because illegals are not viewed as “expenses” by the Democrat party. They are seen for what they are...Democrat VOTERS!!!! Fraudulent voters, to be sure. But so what? As long as Republicans haven’t the GUTS to point out the issue and enlighten the American public, why should Dems care! They are the beneficiaries, after all!!!

you have THE solution.
stop giving taxpayer money, to people here ILLEGALLY,
and the problem goes away by itself.

without the need to “deport millions”.

As Milton Friedman said long ago.

>>Why Is Cost of Illegal Immigration Ignored In Debt Ceiling Debate?<<

Whether republican or democrat control, there seems to be harmony when illegal immigration and border control issues are raised.....misinformation, status quo, bob and weave.

Here in Texas, we recently had a vote set in special session to officially halt “sanctuary cities” throughout the state.

It came up in regular session and was killed, then in special session Rick Perry had the issue placed on the agenda.

Lots of back room haggling and so forth, but when it came time for a vote on the issue of sanctuary city policies by Texas municipalities, republicans failed to show up for a vote.

Whats up? Why would they allow this bill to die? Are these not republicans?

Come to find out, state legislators caved to special interest, namely Perry homes (not related to Rick Perry) and a grocer chain called HEB.

Both corporate power houses shelled out big bucks to circumvent the will of the majority of Texans.

Republican or Democrat control, something stinks in regards to illegal immigration enforcement and border enforcement....or lack thereof.

Taxpayer subsidized "cheap" labor for businesses and more "customers" for the Democratic Party's welfare state. What a deal!

BTW, how about 'dem businesses not complaining too much about the restrictions on H1B's -- I heard that "American" businesses have found a way around the restrictions.. there's a special visa that lets foreigners attend conferences for a few months so -- hey! why not hire them while they are here? Not legal? When did that ever stop "American" businesses?

Obama and the Democrats know that illegal immigrants and amnesty, along with government handouts as a vote bribe to illegals, is their ticket to TOTAL control. It is their guarantee of an almost total voting bloc among Hispanics, just as the blacks they’re kept on the plantation are a guaranteed almost 100% voting bloc, ad infinitum.

The (putative) president of the US can appear before a “progressive” Mexican organization called `The Race’ and say that he’s tempted to become Julius Caesar/Adolf Hitler just long enough (maybe longer) to give them by fiat what they want ...
but if American taxpayers object to their money going to aliens here in violation of our laws—for the most part Mexicans—because it might be the straw that breaks the budget camel’s back, then they are `extremists’ and `racists.’
