Looks like Redstate is resorting to a bit of demogoguery here.

The committee "will have the power to come up with new tax revenue" as they put it.

So what? They "have the power" to come up with any idea they please. It doesn't mean Congress will pass it.

And what's this about the defense cuts supposedly being more draconian than the Medicare cuts? What...do they have an "unnamed source" or something to tell them that?

—Wrong. The deal would include an automatic trigger to make the supposed cuts if Congress rejects the tax hikes.
