The House NOs Begin - Rep. Connie Mack: 'Gimmick' Deal Fuels Debt Skyrocket
Newsmax ^ | August 1, 2011 | Hiram Reisner

Rep. Connie Mack says the American people want a solution to the debt and deficit problem, not more “gimmicks and schemes,” so the Florida Republican cannot vote for a compromise that ensures continued skyrocketing debt.

I don’t think the American people are looking for a deal or a compromise — they’re looking for a solution to the problem,” Mack said today

(snip)

And with this plan moving forward, we ensure ourselves that we are going to have over $17 trillion in debt without solving the problem, which is cutting spending.”

In the article, Representative Mack describes how he thinks we could handle this situation beginning today should Reid's bill not pass the House.

His plan, like all plans coming out of Versailles on the Potomac, take too long and will not be honored by the next Congress.

What he fails to hear is that we want massive cuts NOW. Anything in the future is a promise waiting to be broken.

I always want to know what would his, or DeMint or Paul’s vote be if it was the tie breaker.

I like Mack’s plan...but sometimes you have to think about winning the battle vs. winning the war.

Just heard on a radio station that a Dem said that tax hikes were on the table for the second part of the funding.

Well, tell us something we don’t know.

We know this, Obama gets $2.4Trillion in new borrowing and spending through the 2012 election.

And we get promises for future cuts and a vote on a Balanced Budget Amendment (a vote??). We got nothing!!!

This deal is a catastrophe.

It doesn’t even cut spending. Increased spending will be cut only $24 billion in 2012.

Vote NO

Shut er down. Before we can began to make serious cuts in the budget we have to get over the fear that somehow the world's economy will implode if we so much as cut the trajectory of the government spending.
This is like a third rail of the government. It is too horrible to even think of slowing it down.

“We know this, Obama gets $2.4Trillion in new borrowing and spending through the 2012 election.”

THANKS Boner and McConnell. GOOD SHOW.

Boehner and McConnell acting like RINOs - AGAIN.

What ELSE is new? (sarcasm)

They would rather be assured of media praise than assure that BO has NO CHANCE in 2012.

Expect to see a lot of “No’s” as Boehner will give them cover as there will be plenty of Dem votes to carry the bill.

Rep. Connie Mack says the American people want a solution to the debt and deficit problem, not more “gimmicks and schemes,”

Anybody get tired of hearing politicians or the media pundits speaking for "the American people"?

The fact is many many "American people," as in government workers and government dependents, do indeed want any kind of "gimmick" to keep them going. Whereas the "American people" who succeed from their own efforts, resourcefulness, and motivation, do indeed want the debt and deficit genuinely solved, as in cutting government.

Rep Mack, regardless of his politics, should say: "I speak for myself in wanting the federal governments debt crisis solved, by cutting government spending, because I believe those "American people" who are resourceful, creative, and energetic, and therefore not dependent on government largesse, are the basis of our national prosperity and spirit."

Any Republican that votes to give Obama 3 Trillion more in debt for NO real cuts and only $24 reduction to increased spending in 2012 and the 5-6 Trillion in tax increases coming as a result of this deal should be primaried and removed from office.

This “deal” is a catastrophe.

If I were a congresscritter, I’d say this:

You want tax increases? Fine, I’ll approve one for when UE is at 7% or below for 4 consecutive quarters.

Knowing full well that while Dems are in charge it won’t happen.

Actually, in this case, Mack is stating what polls have revealed - that the public is increasingly aware of the situation, and understands what the real solution is.

Unfortunately, a lot of the public also doesn’t their particular ox gored in the solution, to boot.

I agree with you that we need to win the war, but our battles should be fought well too in the meantime. Politics is such a hard line to walk! LOL

I would say this to you though... If the Reid Bill does NOT get enough traction in the House (and from what I hear, it is EXTREMELY close there), then we need to be prepared for what our next step(s) in the war AND in the battle may be.

Don’t forget the Bush tax cuts are scheduled to expire next year. If that happens Obama has his tax increase.

It actually could harm the economy, and if it does, the GOP would be blamed, or, “extremists” in both parties.

Gotta choose your battles to win the war.

You could be right though, there’s just no precedent for this (which is sad).

I also don’t like advocating a revolutionary, Cloward-Piven type strategy that so many Freepers seem to embrace.

This is the best we could do. Let's not now snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Vote YES, by just enough to pass it with Democrat votes, so that those Republicans that need to, can vote No.

It's politics, not beanbag. Why go for it on 4th down, when we can win it with a field goal. Take the win and go home. Break new records next game.
