GOP Feared Obama Would Blame Them for Default and Downgrade

I got home about, oh, I don't know, two o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday. I was exhausted, and I sat down and I started catching up on some stuff, and I got a note saying ranking member wanted to talk to me. So the ranking member called and spelled out the deal here -- what it was, and why it was a winner, and the best we could do with the one-third government that we control and all that -- and the best thing is that we're assured now of avoiding default. I remember saying that there isn't gonna be a default unless Obama wants there to be. There's a contingency plan to make payments. There isn't gonna be a default. We've got revenue coming in.

Didn't matter.

The ranking member didn't want to take the chance that even if there's no default, Obama says we're in default, and blames the Republicans. I told you last week that they were operating on the basis of fear, and the fear -- the real fear -- that they're operating under is the default resulting in a downgrade of the full faith and credit of the US. They don't want to go anywhere near it, they don't want to be part of it, they don't want to go close to it, they don't want to do anything that will allow that to be said. So that's the barrel that the regime had 'em over. Everything else was almost inconsequential. That was the thing that was animating them. Yeah, so tomorrow is Default Day. Tomorrow. You know, this is Ramadan. That was default day one: Ramadan.

There’s going to be a downgrade anyway.

Besides, the democrats always blame the GOP for everything.

Just emailed and faxed my reps my August 1, 2011 Update to my letter to each of them about the debt ceiling regarding this so-called "deal":

Senators Crapo and Ritrch, and Representative Labrador,

The "deal" with the dems is no deal.

Vote no.

It cedes the congressional responsibility on debt ceiling to the President unless a 2/3rds majority overrules it. I do not believe that is constitutional. it seems that most of the so-called "cuts" are coming from cutting the rate of future spending...which means they are not cuts at all. As to tax cuts, the Dems plan to allow the Bush tax cuts to end, thereby raising everyone's taxes.

I expect, per my letter of July 28th, my representatives to hold true to a common sense, obvious, sane economic line.

Do so, and live a balanced budget, or we the voters will find someone who will.

Do not borrow any more. The default scare tactics are a fallacy and a lie. We have more than enough revenue to cover it, to cover our military, sociail security and medicare. Start cutting from there to have us fall within the 200 billion we bring in.

Cut spending drastically to within our means and income.

Cap spending to a modest rate of GNP that would allow for a balanced budget in five years minimum in any case.

Pass the balanced budget amendment and send it to the states.

My vote hinges on these things...and the other things I always look to (fundamental moral principle, abiding the constitution according to the intent of those who wrote it, defense of this nation and its borders, defense of the unborn, and holding firm on the 2nd amendment)>

Sincerely,

There is no doubt he would blame them. He is going to blame them for delaying if the economy gets weaker. His only game is to shift blame.

The bigger question is will enough voters believe him to make a difference?

But his blaming would be easier if something tangibly bad happened such as a default. It was pretty easy to blame the 2008 problems on Bush and the GOP. When bad things happen people want to blame someone.

Who is anyone kidding. Obama had the upper hand...the Senate and his veto.

Either way we lose....Forcing a veto puts "fault" in our court. Approving a crap resolution puts the "fault" in our court.

Only an election will straighten out his mess....repealing Obamacare being No. 1 on the agenda.

You got that right. They may as well do the right thing and get out there and talk to the American people. The worst thing is...we have not averted a crisis. Obama is blowing up our society and the Republican leaders are too scared to do what is best. We are the enemy because we refuse to accept the destruction and dishonesty.

There will be a downgrade, but the reputation of the Republicans will be un-tainted; they’ll be OK at DC cocktail parties.

I WILL REMEMBER THAT in 2012.

“I told you last week that they were operating on the basis of fear”

Real leadership does not operate on the basis of fear or intimiation. It is committed to doing the right thing for the long run. It operates on the basis of principle.

Republicans no longer deserve our support, financial or otherwise.

Somehow, I can’t see any headlines using the terms “Sarah Palin” and “fear” in dealing with the communist-lite democrat party

“We are the enemy because we refuse to accept the destruction and dishonesty.”

For trying to prevent national insolvency and preserve the country for future generations we are labeled as hobbits (McCain) and “terrorists” (Biden).

Tihs could be the beginning of the end for the Tea Party because republicans used them then threw them under the bus. You know how the sheeple are. They believe what they hear on cnn and msnbc and the three networks. And they all say all of this is the tea party’s fault. Including because, according to obama, “it took too long” so the lack of recovery will be the tea party’s fault.

And not one republican is standing up for them.

Rand Paul said on Hannity that the threat boner is holding over them is none of their bills will ever see the light of day. Man, I hope the tea party congressfolk come out and speak the truth. They want a war? Give them one!

Amen!

That bears repeating.

And reinforcing...

“I would rather be beaten and be a man than to be elected and be a little puppy dog. I have always supported measures and principles and not men. I have acted fearless[ly] and independent and I never will regret my course. I would rather be politically buried than to be hypocritically immortalized.”

They are a bloc of 87

If none of their bills see the light of day, none of the RINO bills should ever pass.

I don’t remember Republicans telling us that they would allow Obama to SCARE them into voting his way.

If that’s the case, then why did they run?

Even if they march in lock step, and by the vote on this we know they won’t, boner and pelosi can get rino and liberal bills passed. They won’t need the 87.

boner and company have hated the tea party since day one. They like the leadership. If they could just figure out a way to keep it without the tea party, they would.
