(It May Not be Constitutional, but) Let's Raise Taxes!!!

Democrats want to help balance the budget and lower the debt by raising taxes, right??

Fine.

Let's go along with their wishes and amend the tax law:

For Registered Democrats (or other ‘blue’ individuals):

(a) Multiply your income from all sources by five (5) percent.

(b) If Form 1040 calculations indicate that you have a tax liability, multiply your total tax due by 1.25.

Subtract any voluntary contribution you made to the "US Treasurer to Reduce the Debt" from the larger of (a) or (b).

The difference is your tax due for the year.

If the difference is less than ZERO, your tax is ZERO.

i.e . There is no refund for excess contribution to reducing the debt.

***Make your check or money order payable to "Internal Revenue Service".

For All Others (or other ‘red’ individuals):

No change.

However, you also may apply the voluntary contribution clause to your tax liability for the taxable year.

*** I included this instruction because many of the newly-minted taxpayers never have had to pay income taxes before. They might not know where the money is supposed to go!

How about the slogan:

It’s a good slogan, but I was hoping to get money coming into the debt service situation.
