WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Gabrielle Giffords returned to the House for the first time since she was shot last January, making a dramatic entrance Monday night during a crucial debt vote and drawing loud applause and cheers from surprised colleagues. As lawmakers stood on the floor, staring up at the vote board, Giffords slowly made her way through an entrance on the Democratic side of the chamber. Applause built and rolled like a wave through the House as lawmakers realized that their colleague had returned.

Ha, well, you brought it up first and set me off... :0)

As far as “who would allow their spouse”...I don’t know... just someone really slimy.

We’ve discussed this a bit on our local FR board.
How most of us would kill our husbands for doing the stuff that creep has done. And right away in January, and ongoing!

But, as someone else posted once, it is what leftists do... so if the shoe were on the other foot, she probably would have done the same to him. The marriage seemed to be just another one of political convenience, even a few years ago.

one needs more than just thinking capabilities to be an effective congresscritter.....one needs to be able to speak clearly, debate, read, write.....

Oh come on, you've seen Sheila Jackson Lee, Nancy Pelosi and Cynthia McKinney etc.

The good news is, she will likely get better, most RATs won't.

Your right about the spouse thing.
The lack of just basic decency by her spouse is surreal here.
The Dem media would let her run for the senate without allowing a single video of her trying to speaking or walk.
Sen Johnson does not debate or been seen in public walking for quite a few years.

You’re exactly right about how they’ll run her.

You should have seen the daily 3-4 articles, plus at least 10 minutes at the top of every local news program. It went on for months. Always with the exaggerations and cover-up (making it seem like Giffords was 100% better right away, then that she was voting for bills, then how much money her staffers were giving away, posting glam shots of her, always the same quotes, never giving specific words she said besides “toast” and “awesome,” but saying how up on politics she was, so on).

“It was a test run for something.”

Agreed. I didn't think about her husband running for office, that could be a possibility as well. I'm still thinking 0bama will pick her (Giffords) as VP. The press loves her and she will get a lot of female (and sympathy) votes.
She may have too much residual brain damage, but she's made a lot of recovery so far and the election is still a long way off. She still has quite a bit of time for rehabilitation.
The media will play up 0bama’s visits to her while she was in critical condition and it will make him more sympathetic as well. No one will be able to critcize Giffords for anything she does or says without the lapdog media coming to her defense and the outcry over “all the poor woman's been through.”
This sympathy for Giffords is how the gun grabbing agenda will get ratcheted up. I truly hope I am wrong, but I think she may be the perfect candidate to give 0bama another term.

I will be nice and say I assume you are joking. Even Obama knows it would be pretty foolish to have someone who has suffered a terrible brain injury, second in line to be President.

She looks pretty good in this clip. Her right arm dangles and she looks a trifle unsteady, but she can certainly move about. No one’s holding her up. It’s a safe bet she can’t talk too well. But you can definitely tell that the lights are on and she’s all there.

The husband might be a military officer and an astronaut, but he’s also a total Kool Aid drinker. He blamed conservatives for the shooting at the outset and never apologized or corrected the record.

I’m sorry his wife got some brains blown out but I despise the guy.

“That overwhelming response to her ordeal could trigger a sympathy vote.”

Yes,I agree. She will also be portrayed as being a “fighter.” There is truth to that, it’s too bad she’s a flaming liberal. It will be hard to critcize Giffords for anything due to the sympathy for all she’s been through.
People do love a come-back story as well. The media will fall all over themselves portraying her AND 0bama as “come-back kids.” I’ll bet 0bama’s minions are already looking at internal polls with the two of them as candidates. Maybe I need a tin foil hat but I think she could be his ticket to 4 more years.

Glad she’s much much better and back, BUT this was a distraction from the vote, and we all know it.

If the people of this country valued brains in politicians we wouldn’t be where we are now. All she needs to be able to do is read the teleprompter.

Agreed.

I was born there and lived there for 24 years. It was simply liberal then.

Assuming she runs for re-election, I’m hoping that the good people of Arizona will do the humane thing and vote this brain-injured woman out of office. Seriously, does a person in her condition need the stress and demands of public office? Can she even speak or read or meet with her constituents, which are requirements of her job? I’m glad she’s alive and wish her the best, but she didn’t look back-to-normal in the video. She needs rest and therapy and a stress-free lifestyle for now. She should forget politics and focus on her health and getting her life back.

Have they considered the possibility that the injury may have destroyed the liberal part of her brain?

What if they get her elected Senator and she turns out to be another Margret Thatcher?
