Publicity from fatal fight affecting officers' morale

The death of a homeless man fatally injured during a fight with Fullerton police has captured the attention of the community and affected morale in the department.

Kelly Thomas, 37, who was schizophrenic, died July 10, five days after the confrontation with six police officers at the Fullerton Transportation Center.

Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said the department has received hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from across California and hundreds turned out to protest Saturday morning at the Fullerton police station.

"It's not pleasant to see people in front of the police station calling the officers 'murderers,'" Goodrich said.

"We understand the community is outraged and concerned and what we've said all along is the incident happened, but the chief called for an outside agency to do a transparent investigation of what happened that night," Goodrich said.

Well, that’s a huge leap from what I asked to what you say I was saying. I am just wondering if he was fighting and kicking, acting out in any way? I know of a woman who was committed because she was destroying furniture and people were in fear of their lives. Do you excuse the behavior, then, because of the label? Or is it still a threat to the community? In which case, do you handle it the best you can? and if it keeps on happening and how he is threatening even the policemen (but then he’s excusable?).

Hey ‘bootlicker, that 900 grand that was a pay off for these thug’s action’s does not establish any guilt by them in your eyes? Was that 900 grand thrown out ‘willy nilly’? Take your bleeding heart liberal ‘cops can do no wrong’ type crap back to the DUmp. The rest of the posters on this thread also have you pegged troll, you are no conservative, get lost.

He said: “He was beaten to death, you stupid ghoul.”

You said: “Your name is “Trailerpark Badass”. That about says it all about your personality. I rest my case.”

That wins you the Non Sequitur Award of the day.

Good show!

“That’s not my name, dumbass.”

Then remove it from this thread. Call yourself something else, although the attitude will stay the same, won’t it.Consider that animals raised for our dinner tables now use 30 percent of the world’s ice-free land.

Are you aware that that poster is not yours to command?

And, have you thought about the fact that many FReepers use satire or irony in their choice of screen names?

It was not a fight, it was murder.

LOL Since he was a Mounted cop and was involved in union riots during the 30's/40's I am sure he bopped a few heads with a night stick. Nothing breaks up a riot like a line of charging horses with the riders swinging night sticks. I am not naive about police work. Just commenting that if street cops are bad, so is the whole line of command..

Since he was a Detroit cop, lots of union riots went on...I'd ask him about the rubber hose treatment, but sadly he died in the 1980s. :O)

Let's suppose he was. Medical personnel in ERs and mental health facilities deal with violent patients all the time, yet they manage to do so without inflicting deadly injuries.

1. If health care workers can do it, why couldn't these 6 police officers have done so as well?

2. What do you think would happen to health care workers and their facility if they did something like this to a patient?

Justice against the murdering thugs will have to serve. Peace may wait until the next life.

A civil trial is not enough. This is criminal murder.

Once a person is an adult in age, it’s very hard to gain any control of them. You can do the 72-hour thing, but after that, unless they are obviously suicidal, murderous or voluntary agree to help ... nothing can be done.

The only thing more repugnant than what they did to the poor man is those who defend them. No decent individual could do something like they did to the poor soul.

They were six of them. All were physically larger than him. They could have group tackled him. Instead they beat him to death. I would have more respect for them if they had shot him. Instead, they beat him to death while sexually orgasming. To call them humans is an insult to humans.

Well said sport! Really sad to think that there are actually people living among us who are so ignorant and just plain stupid to defend, in any way, these jack booted thug’s actions in this event. The fact that 900G was already put up by the city to make it ‘go away’ still does nothing to deter the ‘lickers. Cops can ‘do no wrong’ is their motto. Pathetic people these ‘lickers are. This sort of thing has become epidemic, it has to stop before all hell breaks on our streets. I pray they get it under control but I’m not holding my breath.

As I previously stated, I would have had more respect for them if they had shot him. But for the six of them to beat him for the extended lenght of time that the photos evidenced, well, words cannot describe the scene. again, as previously stated, no decent human being could do that.

These "officers" remind me of the kid that murders both parents and then throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan with their,"Oh these people stress me out when they call me a murderer because of what happened crap.

They were six of them. They could have thrown him down on the ground and handcuffed him if they had wanted to. Instead they beat him to death,

I suspect the Town is pretty quite

Actually, Fullerton has an active downtown area. Lots of fancy restaurants, bars, and tattoo parlors. I don't know of any place that has so many sushi places in such a small area. The City Council has complained about the rowdiness of the crowds.
