Social Security COLA and Impacts on Seniors (Oct 2010)
The Hill ^ | 10/20/10 | Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn.)

Posted on 08/03/2011 5:21:11 PM PDT by T.L.Sink

The Social Security Administration announced there would be NO cost-of-living adjustment for 2011, which marks the SECOND consecutive year there will be no COLA. This poses a great challenge to seniors who are trying to survive on fixed incomes, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet. In fact, Social Security was the primary source of income for 64 perecent of retirees in 2008, and for a third of them those checks represented 90 percent or more income.

The Obama administration refuses to give more the lip-service to the impending catastrophe of entitlement reform. Social Security and Medicare will be broke in the near future. Yet he and his minions in the Democratic Senate have bankrupted the nation with their trillions spent on failed stimulus programs and other socialist welfare programs. Let's be honest: Who is really advancing a political agenda on the backs of the poor and those struggling to survive on fixed incomes?

Why? Has anything gone up in price during the last couple of years?

Let’s see...what costs me now more than it did 2 years ago? Anything?

This has to be tough on the old folks depending on SS. Food prices going through the roof, high electricity bills to keep from dieing from heat stroke, higher gasoline prices.....I feel for them.

This is the dimoKKKRATS way of trying to keep Social Security in check. No COLA, although we know darn well the cost of living has gone up.

To add to my above post, baseline budgeting makes sure the Federal government expenditures go up every year.

In fairness, though, seniors got a 5.8% COLA in 2008, which is two to three times more than usual. So, one could argue that they got two or three years worth of COLAs all at once.

obammie’s vacations, outings, and parties are much more important along with all the money he’s giving his followers (rats over the cliff vision)

He lives to spend our money.

No COLA, although we know darn well the cost of living has gone up.

No it hasn't, if you leave out food ....and energy ... and clothing , then you double count housing , we're in a deflationary environment. Just ask Timmy Geitner and Ben Bernanke.

Sure. CPI-W isn’t based on real inflation anyway.

1) What do you think the media would be saying and writing if there was a Republican president>

2. Why did the politicians in DC get their COLA if there was no inflation?

If there was no inflation in 2011 then there will be no COLA for SS in 2012 making it three years.

Opps...

I could be seeing this incorrectly, but when I went to the actual article on the link you provided, it looked like your article was dated 10/20/10.

I think this may be an article from last year.

How do expect to make a point by falsely dating an Oct. 10, 2010 article with today's date?

COLA is based on 3rd Qtr (Jul-Aug-Sep) CPI-W. As long as it’s higher than in 2008, then SS recipients AND military retirees will see an adjustment.

But no shortage of money for Cuba, Egypt, China, Iraq, Nigeria, Mexico, banks, the U.N., bombs for Libya, and on and on.

Oh yes...Medicare premiums increased so the the SS checks actually shrank.

.

Americans are losing their jobs and homes and seniors get no COLR but

Omuslim is supporting his muzzie bros:

BILLIONS FOR JIHAD!
Obama’s 2009 Supplemental Appropriations for Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Pandemic Flu was revised and “passed by the full committee.”
It gives billions http://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2009/05/13/obamas-supplemental-bill-passes-gives-billions-to-enemies/
of U.S. taxpayer dollars to countries and entities that support Sharia law and/or harbor, hide and support those who want to destroy the U.S. and our allies.
Read the summary from David Obey’s office that was quietly released last week with nary a word from any media.
• $3.6 billion, matching the request, to expand and improve capabilities of the Afghan security forces
• $400 million, as requested, to build the counterinsurgency capabilities of the Pakistani security forces
• Afghanistan: $1.52 billion, $86 million above the request
• West Bank and Gaza: $665 million in bilateral economic, humanitarian, and security assistance for the West Bank and Gaza
• Jordan: $250 million, $250 million above the request, including $100 million for economic and $150 million for security assistance
• Egypt: $360 million, $310 million above the request, including $50 million for economic assistance, $50 million for border security, and $260 million for security assistance
• Pakistan: $1.9 billion, $591 million above the request
• Iraq: $968 million, $336 million above the request
• Oversight: $20 million, $13 million above the request, to expand oversight capacity of the State Department, USAID, and the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan to review programs in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq
• Lebanon: $74 million
• International Food Assistance: $500 million, $200 million above the request, for PL 480 international food assistance to alleviate suffering during the global economic crisis
• Refugee Assistance: $343 million, $50 million above the request, …including humanitarian assistance for Gaza. Funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency programs in the West Bank and Gaza is limited to $119 million (Note: Gaza = Hamas)
• Disaster Assistance: $200 million to avert famines and provide life-saving assistance during natural disasters and for internally displaced people around the world, including Somalia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, the Middle East and South Asia
•Peacekeeping: $837 million for United Nations
peacekeeping operations, including an expanded mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a new mission in Chad and the Central African Republic
• Department of Justice: $17 million, matching the request, for counter-terrorism activities and to provide training and assistance for the Iraqi criminal justice system
The mainstream media remains silent on this but the International News has now picked up the story http://www.thenews.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=22164
— and then there is Obama’s $108 billion IMF bailout scheme http://michellemalkin.com/2009/05/13/obamas-100-billion-imf-bailout-scheme/
in addition to the Supplemental.
And THIS is what Obama is doing to American taxpayers:

ACCORDING TO THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION WILL GIVE AWAY NEARLY $6 MILLION OF AMERICAN TAX DOLLARS TO RESTORE 63 HISTORIC AND CULTURAL SITES, INCLUDING ISLAMIC MOSQUES AND MINARETS, IN 55 NATIONS. See the State Department document here.

CORRECTION: I just noticed that you in fact omitted dating the article, leaving only the post date.

How do expect to make a point by intentionally omitting a date on an article from 10/20/10 to pass it off as recent "news?"

SS may have gotten the increase on one side, but the government took what little increase that was given away when they increased payments to Medicare. Most Seniors actually received $3 to $7 dollars. Yes that was a wonderful COLA increase indeed... NOT!!!!

That is right, and this article is mis leading it will be the third consecutive year that SS recipients wont be getting any raise... Thank goodness for POTUS Bush, he gave the seniors a nice raise..and Obama has given no cost of living $250.00 lump sum once, even when POTUS Bush gave every one $300.00 Michelle obama complained it was not enough, all she could do with that was maybe buy a pair of earrings.... they got $600.00 for their two girls..
