From what I understand the bear got away. This is right in my neck of the woods.

Park Ranger or Warden shot the bear, bear escaped. Huge swath of Stokes and the AT are closed right now cause the ninnies don’t want the liability of having an injured bear which hunts humans on the loose in their jurisdiction.

Park office refused offers from (qualified and with valid 2011 bear hunt license) volunteers to track the bear, not even to shot it.

So meh. As per usual, blame Corzine and Lisa P Jackson for this.

When I was a Scout Master I would tell the scouts time and time again not to bring “pogie bait” on camping trips. They learned their lesson when a raccoon crawled into a sleeping bag with one of them.

Snort! A fried of mine who is a Scout Master told me that one of his scouts tried to attract a bear to the campsite by smearing honey all around his tent. (Yes, I know it is insane...my friend thought so too and would have broken the kids fingers if he'd caught him doing it.) Fortunately-or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it-instead of bears the kid attracted skunks. Not just a couple of skunks, but like every skunk in the woods, a veritable army of skunks. And they kept coming back to the campsite at night all week. Yessiree, that was a fine time at scout camp...

Funny thing is, when Corzine was governor of NJ and his “Now don’t hunt those bear” policy was in place, stuff like this happened all the time and not a peep was heard in the press.
Weird, right?

Seems to me a predatory bear attack.

Humans soft pink no claws or fangs don't run vary fast are easy prey unless they are armed.

Jersey has a large and growing bear population, and is the most densely human-populated place on the continent. Expect a lot more of these stories.

That’s not confirmed in this report. Last I heard, it was shot in the neck and got away. Couldn’t someone track a bleeding bear? The thing’s just suffering now.

Well, for those of us who live up here near Stokes it ain’t “Joysey.” Except on weekends when people come to enjoy our lakes and hills and streams, etc. Bergen County can suck eggs.
