From the reports I am seeing it was a lucky hit from from a RPG, most likely Chinese but supplied by the Pakistanis. Any intelligence or warning provided to the Taliban would have been done by rouge Pakistanis ISI agents who are still angry over the Bin Laden raid.
Shooting down helicopters is an old al Qeada tactic they perfected against the Russians and first used against Americans in Somalia.
