A West Vancouver woman accused of keeping a 21-year-old African woman in slave-like conditions in her mansion will appear in court Aug. 10 after her arrest last month.
RCMP said Thursday they arrested Mumtaz Ladha, 55, on July 19 when she arrived at Vancouver International Airport from an African country.
Ladha faces one charge of human trafficking and one charge of human smuggling after the 21-year-old alleged she had been confined to Ladhas British Properties home and was forced to work 18 hours a day, seven days a week with no pay.
...
On Thursday, Elizabeth Empetin, 51, answered the phone and identified herself as Ladhas Filipino live-in caregiver.
Empetin said she has worked for the family since November of last year, but the Ladhas have not lived in the house during that time and she had not heard from either Mumtaz Ladha or her husband for several months...
Linteau could not say which African nation the 21-year-old hailed from or Ladha fled to.

those nations can’t be named.
but the headline loudly pronounces the criminal as a “Vancouver” woman...
the joys of diversity. it brings so much to the table!
Mumtaz Ladha outta the country, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which happens to be a city built by an Arab Sultan where most of the business class come from the Middle East, and are of Sunni origin.
Tanzania which has a 35% Muslim population. Dar es Salaam location was to take advantage of the lucrative Arab trade routes, and we know historically, that the Arabs pretty well kept the slave trade going longer than any other nation on this planet. And that it is written into their Quran on how to deal with slaves as well.
Lee Lakeman, of the Vancouver Rape Relief and Womens Shelter, said it has seen five or six human-trafficking cases in the past couple of years. She said most have involved sex slavery, though there have been cases of domestic slavery as well. She said some of the cases involved women who were trapped in luxury homes

However, at least 28 million Africans were enslaved in the Muslim Middle East. ... it is believed that the death toll from the 14 centuries of Muslim slave raids into Africa could have been over 112 million.

“Mumtaz Ladha”
Hmmm. An Amish name.
Slavery is more common today than in the 1850’s.Improved transportation being one factor.
“It’s OK for Muslims to have slaves.
Even Jesse Jackson would agree”
Calypso Louis is ok with it too
