London Riots Put Spotlight on Troubled, Unemployed Youths in Britain [Liberal 'Logic' Alert]
New York Times ^ | August 9, 2011 | LANDON THOMAS Jr. and RAVI SOMAIYA

Posted on 08/09/2011 7:30:15 PM PDT by annie laurie

LONDON — “I came here to get my penny’s worth,” said a man who gave his name as Louis James, 19, a slightly built participant in the widening riots that have shaken London to its core. With a touch of guilt on Tuesday, Mr. James showed off what he described as a $195 designer sweater that he said he looted in Camden Town, a gentrified area of north London.

...

In many ways, Mr. James’s circumstances are typical. He lives in a government-subsidized apartment in northern London and receives $125 in jobless benefits every two weeks, even though he says he has largely given up looking for work. He says he has never had a proper job and learned to read only three years ago. His mother can barely support herself and his stepbrothers and sisters. His father, who was a heroin addict, is dead.

He says he has been in and out of too many schools to count and left the educational system for good when he was 15.

“No one has ever given me a chance; I am just angry at how the whole system works,” Mr. James said. He would like to get a job at a retail store, but admits that he spends most days watching television and just trying to get by. “That is the way they want it,” he said, without specifying exactly who “they” were. “They give me just enough money so that I can eat and watch TV all day. I don’t even pay my bills anymore.”

First, there is this: "He says he has been in and out of too many schools to count and left the educational system for good when he was 15." So, he was given the opportunity for a free education and squandered it, but "no one has ever given him a chance". Right.

And of course there is NO connection at all between these two statements:

"He says he has been in and out of too many schools to count and left the educational system for good when he was 15."

... and ...

"He says he has never had a proper job and learned to read only three years ago."

Nope. No connection there.

And then, "He would like to get a job at a retail store, but admits that he spends most days watching television and just trying to get by." Hint to liberal readers: job offers don't jump out of the TV set and into your lap. You'll have to actually go in search of one.

Liberal 'logic' at its finest.

The common argument that crime is caused by poverty is a kind of slander on the poor.

And it’s the so-called rich store owners that provide the jobs these idiots are burning out.

Liberals in GB have gotten EVERYTHING they wanted for the past 60 years. Why should they expect anything different?

It gets worse, try working and not being able to pay your bills, as the price of everything except their wages, skyrockets beyond income.

The liberals over there have run that nation into the ground.

And now, it’s everyone else’s fault?

Don’t laugh too hard, our Ruling Class here in America thinks the same way (calling us “hobbits” and what not.)

The only words I can find to say about the British riots “depressing” and “predictable”.

As has been noted in a lot of other recent posts, Britain has abdicated so much to the leftist feel-goodies that they have in place an entire generation of people who have no sense of responsibility, no work ethic, no sense of values, no moral compass and no respect for anyone who does.

They do, however, have appetites and a sense that it is everyone’s responsibility to make sure those appetites are satisfied.

I honestly don’t think Britain can be saved at this point. I am not even sure America can be.

Unfortunately, a TV set doesn’t jump into your lap, either. You have to smash a few windows and steal one or two during a riot.

And the reason you steal isn’t your fault. You are frustrated and angry about how unfairly you have been treated.

I can see a “retailer” interviewing this idiot. He sees his name and says “You’re the guy who admitted to stealing a sweater. In retail we have a big problem with shop lifting. We can’t hire thieves to help them. Have a nice day.”

Enoch Powell knew this was going to happen when he gave his “Rivers of Blood” speech many years ago. He warned about unchecked immigration from African, Caribbean and Orientals.

The blood hasn’t risen to rivers yet but it is on the way.

Did the British heed his warning? Of course not. They attacked him in every way the could. Powell was one of the most brilliant men in Britain but they paid no heed.

Their not my taxes, I'm just forced by government to pay *their* taxes. Maybe things will get bad enough, where most people won't be able to afford to pay them. In fact, it's getting to that point.

Then watch the fun begin.

The guy is a thief, plain and simple. Why candy coat it.

The idiot dropped out of school and now he cannot find a job at a retail outlet because he cannot count or read.

He has no job record ,because he has never worked and never intends to.

The Government should have him out digging ditch’s or picking up trash before they give him that welfare check./
