Are they teaching community organizing at Mastery Charter High School?
Philly officials reported that the latest violent flash mob to hit the streets were from an Oprah-funded charter school.
Caught On Tape: Philadelphia Teen Mob Attack: MyFoxPHILLY.com The Blaze reported:
The incident occurred July 29the same day flash mob attacks took place in another section of the cityjust blocks from Mastery Charter High School. Students in the video face expulsion or suspension, school officials wrote in a letter to residents in the area where the attack took place.
Sources told Fox 29 that man attacked in the video was hospitalized with injuries to his head and teeth. No charges have been filed so far, police told Fox 29.
It makes me sick, said Mastery CEO Scott Gordon. Were very very upset about it, that any student, but particularly a student thats been in a Mastery school, would behave like that, to think that thats okay, is very disturbing.
Masterys parent company received $1 million from Winfrey last September as part of her Angel Network.
Calling all lawyers.
Whether that school was doing a good thing or not, at least she put up some of her own money.
I wonder if she’ll settle out of court with the victim.
Misguided as she is, at least she put her money, not somebody else’s money, where her mouth was.
I remember several months ago there was a scandal in an African Oprah school where a girl gave birth to a newborn then killed it, or left it in a toilet to die.
Teaching skills to the “disadvantaged” is great, but by itself it can’t stop them from engaging in evil.
For Oprah to be responsible, you’d have to show that she contributed to the attack in some way, through curriculum or school-related activities.
Otherwise the students would likely be considered acting on their own accord.
“Students in the video face expulsion or suspension.”
That SHOULD be the least of their problems.
She taught her chillun well.
'At's funny right there.
I WAS more or less joking. But in our ‘justice’ system, particularly in civil cases, those who are actually responsible are not always those who are held responsible and vice-versa.
Besides... she’s got ‘deep pockets’...
;-)
Education is the transmission of culture.
Oprah has nothing to transmit.
It passed right by me. :D.
Probably condoned and organized by the school, sue their rears off.
This HAS to go to Drudge!!
Flip it around.
Suppose Rush was to donate $1 million to a school. Some time later a group of white kids from that school beats up a black man. I could definitely see a lawsuit coming no matter how ridiculous the justification.
And if Rush gave money to a school, and the kids committed criminal activity, it would certainly be front page news.
The only place I have heard of the kids from Oprah’s school in trouble has been here. I don’t think the MSM wants to run with this story.
Extra credit assignment.
