In the advertising business, Chelsea is what’s called an “International model”. Unlike the other three blokes in the pix, you can’t easily tell her ethnic makeup. Therefore, when seen in an ad, she is theoretically more appealing to more people. They are highly sought out and well compensated for their looks.

Maybe for jay walking it is. But not for a serious crime. It's their (our, as parents) responsibility.
I just plain don't understand this mindset. I can see it if you were actually at war, and you managed to grease a number of the enemy (I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will). But here we have a pampered darling who is engaging in violence and destruction of other peoples' property for the sheer fun of it.
All I can say is that she better stay home in the UK for this kind of stuff, because she would probably be killed in the USA trying this stuff. Shot either by the police or much more likely by a private citizen protecting his property.

I did the same thing to my druggie son (marijuana, booze, crack, cocaine) when he was a teenager. After years of putting the family through hell, he’s a responsible member of the community, over 3 years sober, has a great job, and is engaged to a wonderful gal.
Well, if I saw my own daughter on TV committing a violent crime, I’d certainly turn her in. It might be the only thing that saves her.
This girl was clearly very peer-identified, which is a problem with all teenagers but a particular problem with black teenagers because of the violent behavior of many of the peer models. Since the thug rapper has become the ideal of black adolescents (which would be like having meth-making biker gang members become the ideal of white adolescents), this means that going along with the crowd can be particularly dangerous for black kids. I think the parents did the right thing.

Well not really, the Hillster got it from Joni Mitchell's "Chelsea Morning" and just liked the sound of the name. Not the brightest of ideas, but for a London coiple to do it is weapons grade stupid. How many NY NY parents name their daughter Greenwich Village?
She denied violent disorder, burglary at Phones 4U and Vodafone stores and causing £5,000 of damage to a police car.
Right about now, her mom could probably get elected Mayor of London..

My comments below are not specifically directed at you:
It won’t save her. It’d make her more disturbed. There is no substitute for good, competent & ‘sane’ parenting.
It is a *wider* problem/issue that needs to be addressed by a lot of grps, individuals & very often gov’t related authorities too. Obviously, we don’t live in a social, political & cultural vacuum.
Ironic how we all need an official license to drive, to register our car, to be formally recognised & qualified to hold most professional jobs, and to have formal, recognised documentation to travel, as examples. But, no one asks for any qualifications, or receipts, in advance, for having and raising another human being; most important & critical task of all. These human beings may end up either as positive contributors to society, or the greatest menace to others. Alternatively, and currently, we may simply offload them when it suits us.
No, getting her out of her circle of “friends” (who were probably what inspired her to run out there and start smashing in the windows of the police cruiser) is the best thing that could happen to her.
Her parents have been sane and seem like excellent people and fine citizens, and their daughter was an A student, an athlete, and had gotten all sorts of awards, so I’d say they’d done a pretty good job of parenting.
But all it takes with a teenager is peer pressure at the wrong moment to throw them off track, and a sudden encounter with the law is like a glass of cold water in their faces. She’s obviously not going to spend her life in jail (especially in Britain!), but I hope she gets enough punishment (and shame) to make her realize that the values that Mom and Dad taught her trump the values of her peers any day.
I once knew a middle-class white family who worked to prevent their kid from suffering any legal punishment after a drug dealing arrest and were successful in making everything go away. A year and a half later, he was dead, shot to death at night on the side of the highway by a “rival,” also a middle class white kid.
Kids have to realize the effects of their bad behavior on their own lives before it’s too late, and the best way is usually to let them take their punishment.
Let me guess which Olympic sport... Hammer throw?;) Probably one of those crapola “sports” like synchronized swimming or rhythmic gymnastics/s;)
