Pregnant woman in California, Darla Napora ,mauled, killed by own pit bull

A California man opened his front door to find a nightmare waiting: His pregnant wife fatally mauled by a family pit bull still snarling over her blood-spattered body.

Darla Napora, 32, was discovered Thursday afternoon at her home in Pacifica, Calif., authorities said. Her horrified husband Greg called police after wrangling the killer canine into the backyard.

"He was in the driveway, all frantic, yelling," neighbor Kathy Karlson told the San Francisco Examiner. "He had blood on his hands, blood on his shirt and blood down his pants."

A "Beware Of The Dog" sign hung from a fence surrounding the couple's small, white home.

After police arrived at the house, the 2-year-old pit bull bolted from the yard - and cops took the dog down with three gunshots, said Pacifica police spokesman Capt. Dave Bertini.

Attempts to save Darla Napora were unsuccessful, and the 6-months-pregnant woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The family owned a second pit bull, and the animal was turned over to the Peninsula Humane Society.

Napora was a saleswoman for a California wine brokerage, and married Greg about two years ago.

Police said they didn't believe the second dog was involved in the deadly attack.

Carlson said she was stunned by the brutal killing.

"They are not barking dogs," she said of the Naporas' pit bulls. "They seemed friendly ... It's really sad."

Most social animals that fight each other are quick to accept submission signals and end the fight.

This instinct has been successfully bred out of most Pit Bulls - who need to NOT accept surrender and instead fight to the death - as befits the blood sport nature of this inhumane practice.

Shorty Rossi, call your office.

It’s always the same story: “He was so friendly and gentle all his life, then suddenly this happens...”

Oh great. Another ‘cops shoot dog’ story.

(What do you mean I should read the rest of the story? Ohhhh....)

The latest revised dictionaries will have this sign by the definition of ‘Irony’.

Years ago had a Pitt or two to catch bulls and wild hogs, knew both parent dogs and never had a minutes trouble with people, just had to be extra careful if another pooch came nearby. They were still a little bit like playing with dynamite. NEVER had one around any kid.

When Pitt fighting a somewhat “not that unusual”, any dog that ever attacked a person was promptly put down as the last they needed was one you needed to worry about. When the stupid rednecks and then Holders People started getting Pitts, it was puppy mill delux, in-breding and all, every dog sold regardless. In fact I think these idiots liked the more human dangerous ones, sort of like openly carrying a gun. WOuld never have one now.

POS dog were trained and bread for over a thousand years to hate their own kind and kill them and idiots think they are pets. A damn pit is just like playing with a loaded six gun that has a filled sear, sooner or later someone will let the hammer slip. Try the owner for murder.

I witnessed a pit bull mauling of a harmless little mutt. There was no stopping the pit bull from successively squeezing it's jaws harder, then relaxing slightly to lap the blood of it's canine victim.

It took at least a half dozen people to eventually free the small dog (who barely survived).

Anyone who saw what I saw would be a pit bull foe, forever.

Worked for a vet several summers during the summer. A pit was my most hated animal. Often the owners had have us get the damn things out of the cars for them (having tricked them into the cars via food or other means).

A pet that is not even to be trusted by it’s owners is not a pet. I wish the breed was destroyed.

I am not a Pit bull foe, but neither am I a fan.

A woman once asked about my dog, the ultimate question: “What was it bred to do?”.

The answer for Pits is that they were bred to fight to the death. A good dog for some purposes, but not one I would want around my pregnant wife, or any children, or anyone whose life I especially valued.
