Sarah Palin, un-trending
Washington Post ^ | 08/12/2011 | Kathleen Parker

Posted on 08/12/2011 11:15:09 PM PDT by TomServo

The latest trend in the media world is “trending.” That is, monitoring what people are buzzing about and directing coverage accordingly.

Just as the unspoken sometimes reveals more than the spoken, what’s not trending suggests more than what’s trending. In all the many thousands of words written in the immediate aftermath of the Republican debate in Iowa, two words were scarce: Sarah Palin.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but her reluctance to crap or get off the pot is moving into genuine annoyance territory as far as I am concerned.

Yeah, she has to make sure she doesn't become "Fred Thompson 2012". The longer she waits, the harder it will be to line up a team and ground workers, as they'll already have committed to other campaigns.

Spitzer is loaded and so is his wife. He doesn't need the money or the work.

You do realize this douche bag was supposed to be President? That was the big plan. Attorney General of NYS who took down all those bad Wall Street Boys, to Governor of NY, to the White House. He could have been as bad as Obama.

Uggghh! Then you don’t get Sarah Palin! She is not going to hire anybody that pretty much would be gladly receive by other campaigns, that’s not her MO.....She has not nor will ever hire Republican politicos for her campaign, she wants grassroots support as her GOTV base - average supporters and TEA party folks -— she already has a massive groundgame ready in Iowa

It doesn't make any sense if you are seriously thinking of winning the Presidency, does it?

Yet, her behavior makes perfect sense.

Palin's decision about the run was made a while back, things are going exactly as Sarah Palin intended them to go and her objectives are being accomplished.

Bristol Palin spilled the beans last June 28 when she said on Fox and Friends, "You know, she definitely knows. We've talked about it before. Some things just need to stay in the family."

"Some things just need to stay in the family"?

After Bristol's "tell-all" book (which will be highly embarrassing to her son 13 years from now when he reads a copy), what could possibly need to "stay in the family"?

The fact that Palin is playing her supporters like a cheap fiddle, that's what.

Sarah Palin ceased to be a serious politician long ago and is now a media celebrity. It is a very lucrative gig.

April 15, 2010: Sarah Palin income 12 million dollars since leaving office

Palin's current profession is that of a very well paid entertainment celebrity whose main focus is maximizing her personal income and Bristol's income in the business of Reality TV shows, book sales, paid speeches, paid appearances and paid interviews.

The primary goal that Palin has is to maximize the profitability of her Sarah Palin™ Brand.

Why did Donald Trump pretend to be running for President, why is Newt Gingrich still pretending to run for President and why does Sarah Palin keep teasing and teasing and teasing about running for President?

Because it "enhances the Brand" and that translates into more money.

After praising Palin, Coulter goes on to say that she does not think that Palin will run for president. Hannity counters by saying that Coulter is "unnecessarily narrowing the field" and that Palin has publicly said she is still considering a run. It is at this point that Coulter reveals, "I think she's saying that because she also said Newt Gingrich told her you can get higher speaking fees if you pretend you are running for President."

Palin and FOX NEWS also has a very lucrative game going on:

Due to the "Equal Time" provision of Section 315 of the Communication Act, TV networks cancel the contracts of employees that are serious Presidential candidates. Yet, Palin and FOX News continue a very cozy relationship that is very lucrative for both of them:

1.) Sarah Palin spends a week here and a week there pretending to, maybe, run for President. Such a fake "teaser" campaign does not trigger Section 315.

2.) FOX News hypes each of her fake "teaser" campaigns.

3.) At the end of each fake campaign, Palin's loyal supporters and the curious Palin non-supporters then drive the FOX ratings as Palin appears in an "exclusive FOX interview of Sarah Palin" where one FOX employee (Palin) is being paid to be interviewed by another FOX employee that is paid to toss Palin cream puff questions.

4.) Palin cashes her paychecks and FOX News gets their ratings bonanza.

5.) Rinse and repeat, again and again and again for as long as the game keeps generating money for Fox and Palin.

The longer Sarah Palin keeps playing the teasing game, the more money the Sarah Palin™ Brand brings in. Therefore, Sarah Palin will play the teasing game as long as she can possibly get away with it.

If that is "stringing people around", ...... Well, too bad, so sad, ....... That is what needs to happen to keep the money rolling in.

Palin may even be able to keep playing the game until the first primaries because, since she is not hiring any professionalstaff, a fake "campaign" (where she actually declares but spends no money on staff to actually win) will not put her into debt like the campaigns of Hillary and Gingrich put them in personal debt. Newt Gingrich has been playing that game since his staff quit.

Whatever she does, I predict that the end result will be a maximization of the Sarah Palin™ Brand income.

As far as actually winning the general election in November of 2012?

Well, let's just say that there are none so blind as those that absolute refuse to see.

Oh, Kathleen Parker by now you must be pulling out your hair... apparently you hadn’t seen the pictures and the tweets that were all over today about Governor Palin at the Iowa State Fair and the crowds around her—not to mention the media swarming her. It WAS the talk today. She stood and answered questions for one hour from the press. Without a teleprompter. Remind me again, Kathleen, about your pampered prince....

Seriously, jealous much?

You are at it again, pulling selected stats from a poll. Here is one from the same poll.

In the presidential primary election or caucus in your state next year, are you more likely to vote in the Democratic or Republican primary for president, or are you unlikely to participate in either?

Democratic Primary 43%

Republican Primary 35

Neither 14

(Other/Don’t know) 8

So, this poll has 20% more demonRATS, 22% of the people aren't going to vote, Perry and Palin each get 19% and no candidate gets more than 34%, yet you publish only the Palin stats.

Mark Twain said that there are liars, damn liars, and jerkoffs like you, that try to trick folks with selective use of your stats.

Over time, you've used this selective use of one slice of the FOX poll to slant the data to support your own conclusion.

I just read that Perry is ‘late into the race,” and I thought, “The race has started?”

Only according to the media. Of course the actual race started the day after the last election day, in terms of lining up staff, etc. But it seems Palin doesn’t have the problems many have when they begin a campaign—name recognition, voter base, supporters ready to donate. Why should she start now?

I understand the Fred Thomson comparison but I don’t see it. We liked him, but to most Americans he was a vaguelly famous face. Palin’s celebrity is simply different.

All of this could be meaningless—and people have to keep this in mind—because it could indeed turn out she got in too late, but one can only know that when it actually happens. These things have a way of settling themselves.

But I can’t imagine all this publicity she gets now decreasing should she choose to run—just the opposite, with the news stations now having the excuse that she’s a candidate for the highest office in the land blah blah blah to bash her nightly.

Having said all that, I can still detect for the first time some fatigue on the part of all but her most rabid supporters. Does it make sense? Not really. But elections are certainly strange things. I mean, let’s admit it, all this time later, away from the last election, we had some people we were supporting who clearly shouldn’t have been running for office, and who probably helped cost us control of the senate. Yet at the time we were so high on them. Similarly, we were all able to put away our questions about McCain and support him fairly enthusiastically...until, of course, he lost, and then we recalled why we didn’t like him.

Elections are unpredictable. You only know what’ll happen when it happens, no matter how ‘obvious’ such things are (such as Fred T. wiping the floor with all comers).

Not true. Michael Glassner, who's running her campaign, has worked for both Dole and McCain.

Nothing horrible about that, but let's not pretend she's only hiring outsiders, either.

That’s because Ms. Parker is a liberal cockroach. I am, however, getting a little nervous about Palin’s timing. I hope that she commits one way or the other, pretty soon.

Consider the source.
Parker is a pathologic ObamaBOT and RomneyBOT.

and youthful good looks to the ticket.
Romney would seem a logical choice."

Kathleen Parker: "If Kennedy's speech was an important landmark in American political history,
Romney's was surpassing. With heartfelt humility and poetic eloquence,
he tracked the nation's struggle with and for freedom."
