Chinese without work permits to be expelled

VietNamNet Bridge – The Dak Nong Province Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs said it would recommend expulsion of all Chinese workers at the Nhan Co Aluminum Plant in Dak R’Lap District who fail to apply for work permits within two months.

The workers have two months, starting August 5, when they were found working without work permits, to submit the documents required for the purpose, Nguyen Duc Nguyen, deputy head of the department, told Tuoi Tre Thursday.

“After that date, we will recommend [expulsion],” he said.

The warning comes after Tuoi Tre discovered that 190 out of the 312 Chinese workers registered as “highly skilled” by the main contractor Chalieco had no documents to prove their qualifications.

Nguyen said he had himself inspected the plant construction site and found many of the Chinese workers engaged in simple tasks, just as reported by Tuoi Tre.

“The workers did such simple tasks as erecting scaffolds. I asked the contractors why they were assigned to do such jobs, and they said it was their business.”

“Vietnamese workers are unable to install scaffolding for the foundation at a depth of tens of meters, cannot work for 15-16 hours at a stretch, and do not have discipline,” he quoted them as saying further.

Asked why there were 193 unskilled Chinese workers at Nhan Co while the Government’s policy is not to allow foreign workers of this type, Nguyen said the workers reportedly had five years’ experience.

“Unskilled foreign workers are allowed if they have such experience.”

But he admitted that “experience” was very vaguely defined under Vietnamese law.

“The certification of such experience is done by agencies in workers’ home countries, and Vietnamese agencies grant work permits simply based on the certificates to foreign workers.”

He also admitted that his department had been caught napping over the hiring of Chinese workers without work permits since the project management unit had reported it too late.

Are all the Lowe's and Home Depots in Vietnam going to have to add Chinese to all their signs?

LOL! There are no Lowe’s or Home Depots or Walmarts in Vietnam. But there is a KFC near the Downtown area in district 1 in Saigon. I’ve been there a couple of times. During the bird flu scare they were only selling fish though.

It says here,“Vietnamese workers are unable to install scaffolding for the foundation at a depth of tens of meters, cannot work for 15-16 hours at a stretch, and do not have discipline,” I would of liked to seen, how much are they paying Chinese workers vs how much they pay the ,“Vietnamese workers” they also said they do not have discipline,”is this like saying they do not have discipline enough to accept low wages and not ask questions ?

What he's really saying is he can treat the Chinese workers like slaves.

***Racist ! Insensitive !***

I’ll accept it because it’s no more racist than how illegals from across the Mexigan border are being treated. If in doubt about my claims regarding the above, simply ask good old http://www.nndb.com/people/428/000022362/rush-pubshot.jpg and I’ll guaranteed you he’ll let you in on it.

I mean I have nothing against Nam or anyone else for that matter for the policies they have about illegal aliens. It is the well documented bloody racist persecution perpetrated against overseas Chinese by Nam (fueled by Soviet influence), Indonesia (fueled by American influence), the Philippines (fueled by discontentment of being second class in their own country because of economic status), to some extent even Malaysia (fueled by fear they might become the minority in their own country) is the thing that really turns my stomach.

Let’s put it this way: if a member of your family is a subject of racialism like mind, you too feel the pain.

***Chinese doing the jobs Vietnamese refuse to do***

Hehe (:)! I think it’s more like ‘Chinese doing the things that Vietnamese can’t do’ i.e., like stir frying up those nourishing Chinese savvy only Kungpao chickens or the manning of all those Chinese/HK investments where the ‘Made in Vietnam’ label derives.
